Trong các bài IELTS Speaking, chắc chắn chúng ta thường sẽ bắt gặp dạng câu hỏi "Do you prefer...?" (Dùng để hỏi Bạn thích một thứ gì đó, hay thích cái X hơn cái Y). Ngày hôm nay, Pombeebee sẽ đưa ra một số mẹo hay giúp bạn trả lời tốt với dạng câu hỏi này nha.

Làm sao để trả lời các câu hỏi như:

Interview: Do you prefer chatting online or talking on the phone?

Candidate: Generally, I prefer chatting online. I nearly always find that chatting online can be more sociable as you can speak to more than one person at the same time. Also, chatting online is often much more fun because you can send smileys, photos, and even videos!

Bước 1: Prefer

Cùng mình nhìn xem IELTS candidate này dùng động từ prefer như thế nào nhé:

Tất nhiên, điều đầu tiên bạn cần nói với giám khảo là bạn thích X hay Y. Và khi dùng prefer thì các bạn nên bỏ túi những công thức này.

Prefer + verb-ing + to/ rather than + verb-ing.

I prefer cycling to taking the bus.

I prefer eating to cooking.

I prefer baking cakes at home rather than buying them in shops.

I prefer reading a newspaper rather than watching TV.

Prefer + to verb + rather than + verb.

I prefer to cycle rather than take the bus.

I prefer to eat rather than cook.

I prefer to bake cakes at home rather than buy them in shops.

I prefer to read a newspaper rather than watch TV.

Both these forms are correct and mean exactly the same.

Bước 2: Comparatives

Tiếp đến là so sánh:

Sau khi bạn đã nói với giám khảo là thích X hay Y, bạn nên so sánh thêm, vì vậy điều rất việc sử dụng các cấu trúc so sánh một cách chính xác rất quan trọng.

Công thức biến đổi tính từ:

Đuôi -er: 1 âm tiết

Đuôi -ier: 2 âm tiết và kết thúc đuôi -y

more: từ 2 âm tiết trở lên

Khi so sánh X và Y, bạn nên sử dụng một trong các cấu trúc so sánh sau:

X + be + comparative + than + Y

Watching TV is more interesting than listening to the radio.

Cars are prettier than buses.

X + be + not as + adjective + as + Y.

Listening to the radio is not as interesting as watching TV.

Buses are not as pretty as cars.

Cố gắng sử dụng các từ sau đây thường xuyên hơn khi bạn nói tiếng Anh, vì chúng sẽ giúp bạn nghe giống như người bản xứ:

Actually/ in fact.

Actually và in fact: rất thường được người bản xứ sử dụng để giới thiệu điều gì gây ngạc nhiên hoặc thay đổi những gì đã nói trước đó.

It is actually a lot cheaper to go to that supermarket.

In fact, public buses are a lot more environmentally friendly than many people think.

Needless to say

Needless to say: là một cách khác để nói mọi người đều biết rằng ... mà không bị kiêu ngạo.

I like eating lots of cakes, but needless to say, that will make me fat.

He’s done very badly in his exams, so needless to say, He won’t get into university this year.

Also/ in addition

Also và in addition: được sử dụng để bổ sung thêm thông tin. 

I’m a very sociable person. I prefer team sports such as basketball and football an in addition, I like going to English club with my friends.

I prefer cycling rather than driving a car because it helps me keep fit; in addition, it’s better for the environment and it’s also cheaper!

Besides

Besides: ở đầu một cụm từ có nghĩa là as well as, trong khi ở đầu một mệnh đề, nó có nghĩa là anyway.

Besides watching TV and talking to my friends, I can relax while travelling on the subway.

I like riding a bike as it’s very convenient way to travel. Besides, it’s cheap and I can’t afford a car.
