The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. *Bài làm: The line chart illustrates how the amount of CO2 emitted from the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal changed over the 40-year period. The unit is measured in metric tonnes. Overall, while Portugal and Italy significantly rose in the emissions of CO2, the figures for Sweden and the UK underwent a downward tendency. Additionally, the UK represented the highest recorded CO2 emissions for the entire period. At the beginning of the period, the amount of CO2 released from Sweden was more than 8, which was larger than the combined figures in Portugal and Italy, with approximately 4 and below 2, respectively. Between 1987 and 1997, there was a sharp decline in CO2 emissions from Sweden, which was relatively equal to the data for Italy, with just around 7 while that of Portugal slightly grew to 4. In the later years, the emissions of carbon dioxide from Portugal and Italy remained on a significant uptrend, whereas those from Sweden witnessed a continuous decrease. At the end of the period, the data for CO2 emitted from Italy reached its peak at nearly 8, while that of Sweden declined to below 6, which was relatively equivalent to the figure in Portugal. Finally, the CO2 emissions of the UK kept steady at about 11 from 1967 to 1977 before this figure experienced a gradual decline and then was nearly 9 in 2007. The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007. Đề : In many parts of the world, children are given more freedom than in the past. Is this a positive or negative development? With the rapid pace of cultural changes, more and more freedom is granted to children in four corners of the world. It is my assertion that this tendency can be a positive development since I believe that the disadvantages pale into significance when confronted with overwhelming merits. On the one hand, one may argue that more liberty for children should be viewed negatively. A straightforward yet noticeable weakness of this trend is that giving freedom to children may take a toll on their academic performance at school. This is because if they overuse technology to play games without having supervision from their parents, they may lack study responsibilities which can lead to bad marks at their school. Another limitation worth noting is that the bond between parents and children would be diminished. It is the opportunities that their parents instill moral values, and provide fundamental guidance to support children in their lives and navigate challenges. Consequently, when children have more freedom to direct their lives, parental involvement may make it difficult to form a relationship with their offspring due to the lack of chances to interact with them. However, I believe that the positive aspects of this approach are far more significant than the downsides mentioned above. The most obvious advantage is that this trend would benefit the personal development of children. Firstly, children can strengthen critical thinking which is considered a valuable skill for children. The key rationale behind this is that individuals can have more time to explore their interests and make their own decisions. Buying a toy is the case at this point. If children are granted the freedom to choose what they want, they will take their needs or the price into consideration. Moreover, discovering new interests will foster creativity and innovation that they might not have detected before. A further benefit is communication skills. For instance, allowing children to have more freedom means they can spend time hanging out with their peers outside, which leads to strong social skills. In conclusion, despite having the aforementioned disadvantages of providing freedom to children, I believe that this positive strength would contribute to their intimate development. Spending time online has affected the communication skills of young people both positively and negatively. Discuss the effects of increased online activity on communications skills. In the modern world, teenagers who are spending more time online are constantly increasing. Adolescents' communication abilities have been influenced both adversely and positively by their internet activities. This essay will discuss the possible effects of this problem. On the one hand, there are several benefits to communicating through social media. First of all, young individuals can easily connect with their friends and relatives around the world. For example, Instagram already serves 1.5 million users worldwide, allowing adolescents to connect with their peers by clicking on Instagram and talking. Second, the internet allows for effective contact with people all over the world via email and instant chat. This is due to the fact that we may interact with each other quickly instead of waiting months as in the past. Furthermore, unlike in the past, when we had to pay extra postage if we wanted to send a letter overseas, we can now save money by just clicking a mouse. On the other hand, spending time online has some drawbacks for teenagers' communication. First, young individuals who spend time online often suffer from sleep deprivation, weight gain, and being unable to process emotion as compared to previous generations. This limits their work capacity and results in lower productivity. For example, research has found that people who use computers for more than three hours per day may be at a higher risk of developing mental health problems. Second, although social media makes it easy to meet new people and establish friendships, it also allows vicious individuals to easily break into others' lives. Bullying criminals can utilize the anonymity provided by social networks to earn people's trust before terrorizing them in front of their peers. For example, they may build a fake profile and appear amicable to a classmate, only to betray and shame them online later. In conclusion, spending time online is a major issue that affects a lot of young people in the era of modern technology. Spending time online has affected the communication skills of young people both positively and negatively. Discuss the effects of increased online activity on communications skills. In the modern... TOPIC: It costs a lot of money for a country to host an international sports event, such as the Olympic Games or football World Cup. Some people think that this is a waste of money, while others believe the opposite. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. A number of annual sporting events are held in certain nations to figure out talented individuals joining this field. Unfortunately, some people might believe it is a dissipation of money to do that, while others hold the opposite belief. This essay will evaluate both perspectives before performing my own view that I am more of the latter notion because of its benefit for both sportspeople and socio-economic aspects. On the one hand, throwing cross-border sports events can exert positive effects on a few aspects. Seeking a potential sportsman from all around the world is one of the superior explanations. In fact, global sports competitions confer competitors the ability to show off their capability, closely approaching worthy prize-winning as well as gaining an evitable reputation. This might enable athletes to be recognized by the public and foster the fame of their host country. Another obvious clarification is that by holding these international sports, it is conducive to enhancing the economy of a main region. As more events are hosted with a wide multiple household names of players, more people are attracted to attend and visit there. Therefore, booking restaurants or extended stays in hotels is necessary for spectators to continue to enjoy the contests there as well. This can assist the economy to yield immense profits from that, especially in tourism; in other words, generating multiple job opportunities for residents. On the other hand, some may argue understandably that it is pointless to organize these sports festivals by virtue of their extravagance. To begin with, a host country should allocate a financial budget in order to erect and upgrade relevant infrastructure. Owing to the responsibility of starting an event, improving sports facilities or preparing medical services might be prioritized to meet athletes’ demands. This can therefore put a society under massive pressure, delaying the process of social development in some ways. Besides, it can cost a sum of money to invest in participants. In favor of sportsmen engaging in a contest, a specific region might concentrate on ameliorating the quality of sports teams. This thus boosts the spirituality of players, alleviates tension in the media, and avoids being criticized if sports administrators take no notice of contestants. To conclude, there has been a growing conviction that organizing international athlete games is overspending, whereas opponents of this idea are on the other side. From my viewpoint, I tend to lean towards the following idea, as it offers people a chance to display their talent as well as fostering the pivotal economy. TOPIC: It costs a lot of money for a country to host an international sports event, such as the Olympic Games or football World Cup. Topic 5: The only reason for people working hard is to earn money. To what extent do you agree or disagree? It is often thought that earning money is the individual purpose for people to work relentlessly. Personally, I completely disagree with this view. The option to work hard is not only due to earning money is attractive for several reasons. The prime reason is the sincere ambition and dedication. This is because a major number of individuals choose to work hard for their dedicating aspiration and ambition to possibly erect a fulfilled life or society. For example, some human beings over the world such as an obscure teacher or a mysterious scientist are able to work days and nights without salary and being struggle for finding a feasibly survival way. The only reason for them to keep doing this is to desire to partly contribute to forming a better world actuality. Therefore, this will improve general life and society. Another reason relates to the seeking of experience. It could be explained by the fact that the experience accumulation is more important than earnings for civilians having a wish in elevating themselves and deeply understanding in a particular area. For instance, a vast number of graduated students owning an excellent certificate, do not initially look for an appealing high-income job but severely scramble for working in a low-income job because of aspiring to gain more knowledge and experience about one specific position and area. This makes them to experience all aspects from the hardest to easiest, which might not be included in a high-income job. Consequently, possessing experience plays a more significant role than earnings among people by improving themselves and elevating knowledge. In conclusion, for the reasons I have mentioned above, I maintain that human beings do not work drastically for income problem. Topic 5: The only reason for people working hard is to earn money. Đề: Some say that music plays an important role in society whilst others think it is simply a form of entertainment. Discuss both views and give your own opinion Numerous individuals stress that music is basically an entertainment tool, whereas others believe it is a vital part of social life. This essay will consider both opinions and be inclined toward the importance of music in society. A large number of the general public supposes music is just a type of relaxation activity, and it has no more advantages than being played in festivals or carnivals. In fact, instrumental music increases concentration ability and prevents listeners from being distracted by objective factors such as noise. According to a survey conducted in Vietnam, 75% of responders reported that they need music to focus on their work or study. Moreover, music can change the mood of users; as a result, it is usually used in festivals to create a dopamine and happy atmosphere. Another typical example is if an upset person wants to recharge and refill the energy, he will listen to an EDM song. On the other hand, music also affects other aspects of life such as the economy and tourism. Music is often displayed in songs, and songs are absolutely a form of products, which can be sold and earn money. The entertainment industry obtains a great deal of income thanks to songs and CDs, which can be regarded as a billion-dollar industry; besides, this growing industry leads to thousands of concerts that have a significant influence on tourism. For instance, Hoi An welcomed more than 120000 tourists as Charlie Puth’s fans since this singer has a small show at a music festival. To sum up, although music is a form of relaxation, it notably affects distinct respect of life such as economic growth and tourism. Indeed, the music industry provides a huge income to the economy and it can attract visitors through concerts and world tours. Some people think that children should begin their education at a very early age. Some think they should begin at least 7 years old. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Children’s brain size and cognitive development improve as they grow. This has led to the belief that their education should be initiated at a very young age, whereas some assume the age of seven is the best for children to attend school. This essay will elaborate on two perspectives and the reasons why I lean towards the latter. On the one hand, starting school at a very young age can bring about a variety of advantages. First, early exposure to education can significantly enhance children’s cognitive development. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that quality education commenced during children’s early years can help children engender critical thinking skills as well as problem-solving abilities. These may become the building blocks for their future academic success. Second, early formal education can also benefit parents. In most developed nations today, people are snowed under with heavy workloads, leaving little time for them to fulfill parental duties. Therefore, sending children to school can allow teachers to share such responsibilities, and parents can devote more time to their careers. On the other hand, postponing education until the age of seven may foster better overall development. This can be attributed to the fact that early academic study can lead to unwanted stress that children of this age might not be able to cope with because of their underdeveloped mental capacity. Accordingly, it will be more beneficial for them to start education when they are more developmentally prepared. Moreover, this can allow children to enjoy a more extended period of childhood instead of being overburdened with their studies. To be more specific, young children will not be confined to theoretical lessons. Instead, they can have the chance to spend more time exploring the world around them, thereby discovering new things and gaining practical experience on their own. In conclusion, while it is irrefutable that early education can bestow advantages on children and parents in many aspects, I would contend that delaying formal schooling until the age of seven is a more favorable option. Some people think that children should begin their education at a very early age. Some think they should begin at least 7 years old. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Children’s brain... People should look after their health as a duty to the society where they live, rather than for their own benefits. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Essay These days, controversies have arisen over a prevailing belief that individuals should prioritize their health for the betterment of the society they live in, rather than solely for their own benefits. From my perspective, I partially consent to this statement because focusing on personal well-being can lead to positive impacts on individuals and society as a whole. On the one hand, it is undeniable that health should be pursued for personal fulfillment and an enhanced quality of life. Firstly, individuals should have the freedom to make choices regarding their own health without feeling obligated to society. This is primarily because imposing the responsibility of maintaining societal well-being solely on individuals completely neglects other factors contributing to public health. Secondly, poor inhabitants clearly lack access to healthcare facilities, making it difficult for them to prioritize their health. In such circumstances, expecting them to prioritize societal benefits over personal benefits may exacerbate existing inequalities. On the other hand, it is immediately obvious that the importance of personal health has proved to be positive for the entire community. To begin with, one crucial point to discuss is that health promotion substantially reduces healthcare costs. In particular, individuals taking care of their health can minimize the need for expensive medical treatments, assisting the society in both the efficient allocation of healthcare resources and necessary investment in other essential areas. Furthermore, healthier individuals can greatly contribute to a healthier society, which minimizes the burden of the healthcare system. More importantly, they might actively participate in various aspects of society, including work, education, and community activities, leading to overall societal development. To summarize, with these aforementioned catalysts, I firmly believe that it is imperative for individuals to focus on self-care and maintain good health, as it benefits both their personal well-being and society. Some people think watching TV is bad for children, while others think that watching TV has more beneficial effects on children. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion. Many people insist that watching TV has adverse effects on youngsters, while others assert that spending time on TV can have various benefits. Although there are good arguments in favor of the benefits of television, I strongly believe that watching TV is detrimental to children. On the one hand, there are several arguments that viewing television is positive for youngsters. First of all, supporters of this viewpoint claim that watching television programs can provide children with a wealth of information and learning opportunities. Young children, for example, can acquire deeper knowledge and broaden their horizons about history and geography by watching Ted.com or BBC News. As a result, they are more likely to develop an interest in studying. Furthermore, because of the abundance of information they get, many young children who watch television often can acquire foreign languages. Children in Vietnam, for example, may learn a lot about English owing to television. As a result, they will be more eager to study English than in the past. On the other hand, there are two reasons why viewing television adversely affects youngsters. The main reason is that it can have a negative impact on their academics. When children spend so much time on the TV screen, they may neglect their scholastic responsibilities, which play an important role in their future jobs. Consequently, they are less likely to obtain better jobs compared to those who prioritize academic pursuits. Furthermore, watching TV may lead to numerous ailments such as obesity, stroke, and coronary heart disease their later lives. To exemplify, in England, during COVID-19, many children spend too much time watching television content; they will have 50% more chance of getting obese compared to peers engaging in other activities. In conclusion, despite the potential benefits of watching TV for youngsters, I believe the downside of television is much more significant. Some people think watching TV is bad for children, while others think that watching TV has more beneficial effects on children. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion. Many people insist t... Nowadays, technology is increasingly being used to monitor what people are saying and doing (for example, through cellphone tracking and security cameras). In many cases, the people being monitored are unaware that this is happening. Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages? In today's world, the use of technology for surveillance purposes is becoming increasingly prevalent. From my point of view, while the benefits of monitoring individuals' activities are undeniable, I believe that the downsides of regulating users outweigh the benefits. There are two main benefits of user monitoring. The most advantageous aspect is that using technology can deter people from engaging in illegal activities. This is due to the fact that without CCTV cameras, individuals would commit an offense such as robberies, money laundering, and murders. Therefore, installing hidden surveillance equipment can create a sense of safety and security for citizens. Moreover, tracking technology systems can survive people's lives in some situations. For example, in Ha Noi city, some babies were kidnaped by terrorists with GPS trackers, the police quickly identified all the abducted children and rescued them. While being followed by tracking systems has many perks, there are far more significant consequences. One negative aspect of cellphone tracking is that it makes users feel nervous. They believe that they feel uncomfortable and fatigued while calling and chatting with their friends, and their relatives. The second downside is that some scammers and hackers can get access to individuals' accounts and steal money, some essential information that might be dangerous to users. Take Hieu Pc as a real example of this, he hacked more than 200 million US residents' personal information, including society security numbers, stand bank cards, touch phone numbers, and birthdays and sold it to internet criminal groups. As a result, more than thousands of people in the Us felt scared and shocked. In conclusion, although there are some advantages to being monitored, I strongly believe that the disadvantages are much more significant. The bar chart below shows the proportions of English men and women of different ages who were living alone in 2011. The pie chart compares the numbers of bedrooms in these one-person households. The bar chart illustrates the percentages of demographics of English males and females who lived alone in 2011, while the pie chart depicts the number of bedrooms in one household. Overall, it is readily apparent that women aged 65 and over constituted the highest proportion of people living alone, whereas the majority of one-person households tended to have two bedrooms. Based on the pie chart, the majority of people were attracted to 2 bedrooms, at 35.4%. One bedroom and three bedrooms accounted for 28% and 29.8%, respectively, making them the third and second most popular types of one-person households. Just under one-tenth of single-occupant homes had four or more bedrooms. Around 63% of women aged 65 to 74 lived alone, while the figure for men was much lower, at 38%. Females occupied approximately 72% of single occupants aged 75 to 84, as opposed to nearly 28% of males who stayed alone. There were 76% of females aged 85 and over living alone, compared to 25% of men. However, this trend was reversed for the younger age groups, with the 50-64 and 16-24 age groups recording more than half of male residents living independently. Similarly, roughly 62% of men aged 25 to 34 and 65% of men between 35 and 49 years of age lived alone, higher than their female counterparts by one third. Đề: Some people think that good health is very important to every person, so medical services should not be run by profit-making companies. Do the advantages of private health care outweigh the disadvantages? There is a belief that allowing profit-making companies to run medical services is unwise, as a healthy body is the key to human lives. This essay will discuss both positive and negative points about private health care and it holds an unbiased view. Numerous individuals believe these companies caring much about profit usually put all their efforts into encouraging patients to take medical tests and use medicines more than it is necessary. Instead of truly caring about customers’ health and giving substantial pieces of advice, these medical companies will amplify the illness and incline patients to take more tests and pay for the bills. For example, the doctor will ask a patient to come back on another day to check their health while it is not an extremely severe case; as a result, the patient has to pay an extra bill for the next check. In several cases, these additional bills can harmfully affect customers’ health. In other words, private health care is also an increasing trend as it is more secure and more accurate. It is undeniable that each person has a distinct health condition so there are different treatments amongst patients even though they suffer from the same disease. Private health care has arisen to solve this problem since it can focus on a particular resident and treat only one patient at a time. Therefore, the result will be more correct and faster. For instance, according to a survey conducted in Vietnam, 75 percent of attendees agreed that by using private health care they would have feedback immediately while the rest admitted that they had to wait for 3 hours to get the results. To sum up, despite the unethical ways to make more profit of several companies, there is evidence that applying for private health care is indeed beneficial because of its accuracy and speed. More and more people no longer read newspapers or watch TV programs to get news. They get news about the world through the Internet. Is this a positive or negative development? Essay: These days, controversies have arisen over a phenomenon that a growing number of individuals tend to acquire news online in lieu of physical newspapers and television programs. From my perspective, despite several drawbacks of this tendency, I strongly advocate the sentiment that this is a positive development by virtue of numerous advantages that are worth analyzing. On the one hand, proponents of the idea that this alteration has an adverse bearing on the society have their own convincing arguments. Firstly, obtaining news from the Internet can facilitate the spread of misleading information due to a lack of fact-checking features from various online outlets. As a consequence, netizens would freely share unofficial news or information regardless of its authenticity, while readers are more likely to be misled. Secondly, the convenience of staying updated on news and events through the Internet can make it easy to get addicted to certain media channels like Facebook and Twitter. Once addicted, people cannot focus on more important tasks, which greatly influences their concentration and performance. On the other hand, it is clearly apparent that the Internet offers more current updates and a more fascinating experience. The first favorable aspect is that news obviously travels faster on the Internet compared to traditional media sources. Unquestionably, audiences can instantly update articles and share news through social networks, whereas newspapers are often only updated daily and require customers to physically purchase them from newstands. The second bonus point to consider is that individuals can stay informed about current events with useful audiovisual elements thanks to the emergence of online media sources, which assists viewers in comprehending the information more easily. This is primarily because news coverage on the Internet usually uses video footage to illustrate the course of an event as opposed to merely boring texts and pictures in conventional newspapers. The line graph highlights the information about the production of waste in three companies, namely A,B and C from 2000 to 2015. From the overall perspective, what stands out from the graph is that the amounts of waste output by company A and B decreased over the period, whereas the opposite was witnessed in company C. Another striking feature is that the figure for company A was the highest for most of the period. Turning to the details, in 2000, the amount of waste produced by company A was the highest at 12 tonnes, in comparison with just around 4 and 8 tonnes in company C and B, respectively. However, in the next 5 years, while there was a significant increase in waste production of company C from around 4 to 6 tonnes and company B with the amount of approximately 2 tonnes, company A saw a considerable decline by roughly 1 tonne. Looking further into the data, over the 10-year period from 2005, company A continued cutting its waste steadily and finally reached around 8 tonnes. At the same trend, the amount of waste produced by company B fell dramatically and hit the lowest point at 3 tonnes at the end of the period.
