The bar chart compares how money was spent in five different categories across France and the UK in 2010. Overall, it is evident that the expenditure of the UK was higher than France's spending on almost all goods and services. In addition, cars paid the highest expenses for both countries, while perfume recorded the lowest figures. With regards to the United Kingdom's spending, cars were the leading category, with an impressive amount of money at 450,000 pounds. In contrast, books hold the second position, with the spending at 400,000 pounds. Interestingly, there was no significant distinction in pay among computers and cameras, as they all received an average expenditure of 350,000 pounds, which was roughly 200,000 pounds higher than the expenditure of the UK on perfume. Turning to the pay of France, cars again offered the highest pay, at around 400,000 pounds. Computers secured the second place, with an average spending of 380,000 pounds. At 300,000 pounds, the expenditure on books was two times as much as that on perfume. Finally, the spending on cameras reaches the lowest point at just 150,000 pounds. Some people think that manufacturers and shopping malls should sell fewer packaged products while others argue that people have the responsibility to buy products with less packaging. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. In recent years, the ever-growing issue of excessive packaging has sparked debate regarding responsibility. Some contend that manufacturers and retail outlets have the responsibility to provide items with minimal packaging, whereas others believe that the onus is on customers to make informed choices. This essay will discuss both viewpoints and argue that both parties should take responsibility for reducing packaging waste. On the one hand, major retailers and producers are responsible for producing products' packaging, therefore, they are supposed to take the initiative in cutting it down. In terms of manufacturers, they could simplify their packaging. Specifically, they can utilize innovative packaging designs that use less materials and implement more sustainable practices by using environmentally friendly materials. Supermarkets can opt for products with minimal packaging or packaging made from sustainable materials. For instance, there has been a significant change in the packaging at the deli counter in some supermarkets. Styrofoam boxes have been replaced by sugarcane boxes, which protect not only the environment but also consumers' health. The product is made from 100% bagasse, can stand high temperatures, and disintegrate easily within a few weeks. In this way, businesses can set the standard and take the lead in reducing packaging waste. On the other hand, consumers also have a crucial role to play in reducing packaging waste. By this I mean, by choosing products with minimal packaging and boycotting excessively packaged items, customers can influence companies to adopt more sustainable practices to boost the sales volume. However, consumers should be aware of “greenwashing” , where companies make misleading claims about the environmental benefits of their products. Moreover, individuals should opt for biodegradable or reusable bags, which would remarkably reduce the amount of plastic waste. As a result, customers could drive positive changes in packaging practices." In conclusion, the effectiveness of reducing packaging waste hinges on a cooperative effort between manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. A shared sense of responsibility and collaborative action are paramount in overcoming critical environmental issues posed by excessive packaging. Some people think that manufacturers and shopping malls should sell fewer packaged products while others argue that people have the responsibility to buy products with less packaging. Space exploration is too expensive and money should be spent on more important things. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Space exploration has long been a topic of debate, particularly regarding its cost and the allocation of financial resources. From my perspective, I acknowledge that space missions are costly, I agree with the notion that money could be better spent on more pressing issues. However, I believe that the benefits of space exploration should not be overlooked. First and foremost, the high costs associated with space exploration can be seen as a significant drawback. For instance, missions to the Moon, Mars, or beyond require substantial investment in technology, research, and infrastructure. These funds could arguably address urgent problems on Earth, such as poverty, healthcare, and education. Allocating financial resources to improve living standards, tackle climate change, or invest in sustainable energy solutions might yield more immediate and tangible benefits for humanity. In addition, money spent on space programs often does not directly benefit the average person. In times of economic hardship, it seems impractical to prioritize expenditures on exploratory endeavors that do not offer immediate returns or solve existing societal issues. This perspective suggests that resources should be redirected towards enhancing public services and addressing critical needs. However, space exploration brings numerous benefits that extend beyond the immediate costs. Technological advancements driven by space research have led to innovations that impact everyday life, such as improvements in telecommunications, materials science, and medical technology. For example, technologies developed for space missions have contributed to advancements in satellite communications, GPS systems, and even medical imaging techniques. These innovations can address some of the very issues that are seen as more pressing, such as healthcare and disaster management. Additionally, space exploration has a role in inspiring future generations and fostering international cooperation. It encourages scientific curiosity and promotes collaboration between nations, which can lead to shared advancements and global problem-solving. The pursuit of knowledge and exploration also has the potential to unite people around common goals and aspirations, fostering a sense of global citizenship and collective progress. In conclusion, while it is reasonable to argue that the costs of space exploration could be redirected towards immediate and pressing needs, the long-term benefits and advancements derived from such endeavors should not be dismissed. A balanced approach is essential, where investments in space exploration are carefully managed and aligned with broader goals of addressing pressing global issues. Space exploration is too expensive and money should be spent on more important things. To what extent do you agree or disagree? State whether you agree or disagree with the following statement, and why:"The process of inner growth is a process of constant self-discovery. If we don't understand ourselves first, it will be difficult for us to understand others." Inner growth is a journey of understanding ourselves. Through personal development, we dive deep into our thoughts, emotions, and core values, gaining insights into our true feelings. This process of self-discovery isn’t easy; it requires patience and time. As we work to change unpleasant habits, it becomes challenging if we lack discipline and struggle with accepting feedback. Without a clear sense of our passions and core values, we might experience low motivation and poor self-discipline. Despite the time and effort required, the results of self-understanding can be transformative. A solid grasp of our own emotions and behaviors helps us recognize similar patterns in others, fostering greater empathy. This self-awareness also allows us to adapt our personalities to different situations and avoid conflicts. Moreover, it helps us understand our own biases and judgments, making us more open-minded and accepting. In conclusion, understanding ourselves is like having a map that guides us in our interactions with others. By knowing our emotional triggers and thought patterns, we gain a better appreciation for where others are coming from. This empathy and understanding lead to more supportive and positive relationships. Therefore, investing in self-understanding enriches our ability to connect with and understand the people around us. Topic : "Should Emphasizing Self-Discovery Take Priority Over Keeping Pace with Rapid Digital Advancements?" In the age of digital revolution, we tend to be lost amid information presented, sometimes, we are over-emphasizing the need to pace the rapidly developing world, this results in our initial personality and characteristics being lost and underprioritized. Despite the benefits of keeping on track with society, I firmly believe that understanding ourselves should be the fundamentals of life. Firstly, understanding our personality contributes to pride and self-esteem. As we can predict our capability and strength, our decision-making ability becomes precise and logical, allowing us to proceed without fearing for other's claims. Secondly, understanding our inner self is the first milestone to success. By understanding our minds, we can make accurate decisions and work efficiently. Mastering this would allow us to be ahead of anyone without working effortlessly to catch up with the modern world Last but not least, by trapping ourselves into endlessly adapting to the changing society, we lose many opportunities in life. By focusing on changing with society, we are losing our opportunities to distinguish ourselves from the rest of the population that needs to know where they are going. Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, we could focus on cultivating our unique strengths and interests. In conclusion, while keeping pace with the digital age is crucial for staying relevant and informative, it is equally important to prioritize self-discovery and personal growth. By understanding our personality, values, and aspirations, we could guid ourselves to the closest route to success by avoiding an unnecessary obstacle in the way. Đề: In the past, people used to travel abroad to look for many other things different from in their home country. Nowadays, cities throughout the world are becoming more and more similar. What are the reasons? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? Previously, people travelled abroad to seek new and unique experiences different from their home nations. These days, cities worldwide are becoming increasingly similar. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this trend and argue that its disadvantages outweigh the advantages. While there are two major reasons for the current phenomenon, such as the expansion of the tourism industry and the desire for modernization among cities, I consider that this trend would bring about significant drawbacks, namely the loss of cultural identity and decline in tourism development, which outnumber the benefits. This trend is driven by two factors. The first is the tourism industry expansion. Given that cities cater to international tourists by providing familiar accommodations and eating options, many successful models are constructed in many parts of the world. To illustrate, global fast-food chains like KFC and McDonald’s are ubiquitous, offering familiar meals to travellers. Another contribution factor is the willingness to modernise. Many developing cities aspire to replicate the success of Western metropolises by adopting similar urban planning strategies and architectural designs. An example of this is China's replica of the Eiffel Tower. Therefore, residents of some countries no longer need to travel abroad to experience aspects of other cultures. Despite this, this phenomenon could result in two considerable disadvantages. Firstly, it can diminish cultural identity. As cities adopt similar features, they risk losing their unique cultural identities and traditions. For instance, traditional structures in big Japanese cities like Machiya and Nagaya in Tokyo are increasingly replaced by modern skyscrapers, eroding the historical architecture.Secondly, the homogenization of cities can lead to a decline in tourism. If every city starts to look the same, tourists may lose interest in travelling abroad, finding it pointless and unexciting. This trend is evident in Greece, where traditional villages are being replaced by modern resorts, reducing the appeal of its cultural heritage. To summarise, the similarity between nations is caused by expansion of the tourism industry and willingness to modernise, which bring about two main drawbacks: the decrease in cultural identity and tourism development. Therefore, while the globalisation of urban design and amenities may provide some conveniences, the disadvantages of this trend eclipse its benefits. The use of books should be completely eliminated and replaced with TV, games and movies when teaching children. Do you agree or disagree?
There are arguments that the methods of teaching in schools should be transformed from traditional materials, such as books, to media ones including TV shows, video games and movies. In my opinion, I agree that the later will help students to study more effectively, I think remove books from education system is totally wrong. First and foremost, learning through games or films is beneficial for children, especially with abstract subjects including maths and physics. It is proved that absorb information by images helps children to remember knowledge better and clearer instead of books filled with letters with confusing definitions. By this way, they not only significantly understand knowledge, but also have an interest in studying. However, books still play a crucial role in education and imparting knowledge to children. It is obvious that books contain more specific and efficient piece of information. In an effort to assist students in making out abstract definition, only watching TV or playing games is not enough. This is because movies or games do not explain in detail but only visualize knowledge for them to see. In conclusion, it is reasonable for some to suggest teaching children by images through televisions and games, I think it will be detrimental to the understanding of children without information learning from books. Teachers should combine two of these methods to get the best results in conveying knowledge. There are arguments that the methods of teaching in schools should be transformed from traditional materials, such as books, to media ones including TV shows, video games and movies. Many people believe that work-life balance is more important than career success. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Provide reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience. It is argued that work-life balance plays a pivotal role over career development in the contemporary world. From my perspective, maintaining a balance between work and personal life is more crucial than achieving high levels of career success. To a significant extent, I agree with this statement for several reasons. First and foremost, work-life balance is essential for maintaining good health and overall well-being. Long hours and high stress levels associated with career success can lead to physical and mental health issues such as burnout, anxiety, and depression. For example, I once had a colleague who prioritized career advancement over personal time. While she achieved rapid promotions, she eventually faced severe health problems, necessitating a long break from work to recover. This illustrates that without a balance, the pursuit of career success can come at a high personal cost. Additionally, a balanced life allows individuals to nurture relationships with family and friends, which is vital for emotional support and personal fulfillment. People who spend excessive time at work often miss out on important life events and the opportunity to build strong personal connections. For instance, during my own experience in a demanding job, I noticed that those who managed to maintain a healthy work-life balance were generally happier and more content, as they had time to engage in hobbies and spend quality time with loved ones. These personal experiences and relationships can provide a sense of purpose and happiness that career achievements alone might not offer. In conclusion, while career success is undoubtedly important, work-life balance should be prioritized as it leads to better health, stronger personal relationships, and increased productivity. Striking a balance between work and personal life not only ensures a more fulfilling life but also supports sustainable and meaningful career success. Many people believe that work-life balance is more important than career success. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Task 1: The table shows the number of exchange students from universities in Europe to Australia and vice versa. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. The tabulated chart illustrates comprehensive information on how many university students enrolled in exchange programs from Europe to Australia and vice-versa. The study was conducted between 2007 and 2009. Overall, there was an upward trend in the total number of students exchanging from Europe to Australia, which was mainly due to the increased number of German and Swedish students. Meanwhile, no difference was seen in the figure for students from the reverse exchange program. In addition, France consistently contributed the most people to both international education projects. Regarding the Europe-Australia exchange project, in 2007, 61 French students joined the programme. The figure remained nearly unchanged up to 2009, at 60 people, making it the greatest contributor among the five countries. A similar pattern was true for The Netherlands, maintaining at 36 throughout the period examined. Meanwhile, Sweden and Germany experienced a surge in the number of exchange undergraduates, which increased significantly from 32 and 27 in 2007 to 42 and 63 respectively in 2009. With concerns to the vice-versa program, France accounted for 37 students in 2007, followed by an escalation to an impressive number of 58 in 2009. Similarly, in 2007, the figure for Germany was only 18, after which it expanded to 26 in the year 2009. The Netherlands, however, took a nosedive from 32 to just only 18 students by the end of the period. Many young people regularly change their job over the years. What are the reasons for this? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
There is an unanswered question about why many youngsters frequently shift their occupations these days. This essay will put forth some reasons and posit that the demerits of this notion eclipsed its merits. First and foremost, one prominent reason for this lies in the unsuitable of some jobs they took. This is because most young graduates choose works unrelevant to their field of study. As a result, most of them have to go through many occupations until they figure out their "in-field" or suitable jobs. Admittedly, there are some benefits of this action, one of which is the opportunity to undergo distinctive work environments. This can pave the way for them to gain hands-on experience and sharpen practical skills. Therefore, it is understandable why many youngsters alter their jobs regularly. However, the cons of job changes are undeniable. One prominent downside is the inefficient use of time, although some can acquire hands-on experience through this time. According to a study by Dawson University in 2021, 46% of graduates claimed that it had taken them almost two to three years to find an appropriate career, compared to those who had a stable occupation in the early period after graduating. Another drawback, that can be seen, is insufficient income. Due to this, many of them can not afford their living cost, not to mention their side interests. Thus the negative ramifications that result from career transition are obvious. In conclusion, there are some negative aspects such as time-consuming and meager salary, to name but a few; however, a few favorable aspects can be seen, including hands-on experience and practical skills. Despite its advantages, I believe that the cons do overshadow the pros. There is an unanswered question about why many youngsters frequently shift their occupations these days. The three pie charts compare how much money was spent on five different categories by a specific UK school in 1982, 1991, and 2001. Overall, it is apparent that teachers' salaries made up the largest portion of the cost, while insurance spending experienced the opposite trend. Resources and other workers' wages decreased, but there was an increase in the furniture and equipment used by the school. In detail, the teacher’s salaries accounted for 40% initially before rising by half a decade later and falling by 5% in 2001. In contrast, others recorded a steady decline from 28% in 1981 to more than a tenth at the end of the period. As for remaining expenses, the expenditure on insurance experienced a fourfold increase throughout the years, from a considerable 2% in the first year to 8% in the last year. In terms of manufacturing, both resources and furniture exhibited fluctuations. Having increased to a fifth in 1991, resource spending then underwent a halving, at under 10%. Similarly, the portion of equipment in the school decreased by 10%, then peaked at 23% at the end of the period. Part 3: ● Are important decisions best made alone?
I don't think so. It is best to consult others when making an important decision. By doing so, decision-makers can consider more options and see them from distinct angles that they themselves might overlook. Having said that, sometimes making up our own minds is more beneficial, especially in the case of business leaders. They are the ones who have the vision like no one else, and many, such as Elon Musk, heavily rely on their gut feelings to decide. Thus, while consulting others is generally advantageous, there are instances where individual judgment and intuition play a crucial role. I don't think so. Part 3: At what age do children start making their own decisions?
I believe children start making their own decisions from a very young age, even on the very first day. For instance, they decide when to eat and when to nap mostly by themselves. By the age of three, most children have become more independent and want to make their own decisions with a little help from their parents. I reckon that parents should encourage them to do so to nurture their self-reliance. This early practice in decision-making helps children develop confidence and critical thinking skills that are essential for their growth. Question: In the past, people stored knowledge in books. Nowadays, people store knowledge on the internet. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages? It is true that people tend to store knowledge and information on the internet rather than in traditional books, which leads to evolutionary development. Although doing this has several disadvantages, the benefits may be far more significant. There can be some minor disadvantages of using internet platforms as an archive. One possible issue is that information on the internet can be leaked or hacked easily. This is because in some developing countries, such as Vietnam and Laos, the governments do not focus on implementing policies that are related to the security of social media platforms and intellectual copyrights. As a result, this can cause loose cyber laws of these nations, which leads to the seemingly inevitable facts that important information is insecure and copyright infringements are becoming more popular due to the boom of the internet. Another detrimental effect could be that absorbing information from using the internet as knowledge storage may spread misleading information. The simple reason for this is that uninformed netizens can post anything online without verification and repercussions from the governments. Consequently, this causes the spreading rapidly of unreliable information on the internet. Despite this, storing knowledge online can be more advantageous for several reasons. The most obvious benefit could be that it can provide a significant reduction in look-ups for information time. Thus, instead of leafing through numerous pages when using casual books or listening to every single DVD, people can find the information they want with a single click. This is because the knowledge that is stored on the internet is categorized conveniently. Moreover, state-of-the-art equipment such as computers and artificial intelligence provides individuals the opportunity to look up for knowledge more and more easily. Another merit worth mentioning is that storing knowledge on online clouds may keep more diversified types of knowledge. An illustration for this is that people can store books on the internet through txt and pdf files or store film and musical legacies through mp3 and mp4 files instead of storing this knowledge through books and DVDs, which is inconvenient and can be lost easily. The internet not only stores variety types of knowledge but also stores perhaps unlimited sources of data within a Google Drive workspace or Tera Box cloud as an alternative to a public library or a DVD store. Part 3: ● Why do some people find it hard to make everyday decisions?
I'm not so sure, but I guess some people struggle with making everyday decisions due to a lack of adequate background information. For example, when we want to choose between different types of cars but don't have an idea about their power and reliability, we can be struggled seriously. Additionally, people usually struggle with making decisions when there are conflicting targets, such as wanting to buy a house near the city center but having a limited budget. This conflict of interests makes it difficult to choose the best option. Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists and not local people. Why is this the case? What can be done to attract local people? In the contemporary world, many museums and historical sites attract more tourists than native people. From my perspective, this trend can be attributed to two main reasons and several solutions should be done to attract the locals’ attention. Local people infrequently attend museums and historical sites due to two primary reasons. The foremost reason is the perceived repetition of heritage locations. This is because those places only offer similar activities over many years; hence, local residents may feel they are already familiar with these sites. Consequently, they do not prioritize visiting them. Another justification is the price of entrance tickets. Many cultural institutions offer an excessively high price for only a few activities. For instance, many museums in Vietnam cost 100,000 Vietnamese dong for only 30 minutes of sightseeing. As a result, local residents especially low-classes can not access these sites. However, several solutions could be implemented to captivate native people’s attraction. The first solution would be offering more thrilling experiences such as puppetry or plays to recreate the tense atmosphere of battlefields. This could be done by the administrators to provide more various and interesting activities for visitors; hence, more locals may attend and enjoy them. Secondly, the officials of exhibition halls and sites of historical significance should reduce or eliminate entrance fees. The more reasonable price, the more local people can purchase. As a result, there will be an increase in local visitors. In conclusion, the general familiarity and the overpriced fees are predominant reasons why tourists mainly visit museums and historical sites, not local people, and steps need to be taken by these places’ administrators to attract more locals. It is predicted that with more new activities and affordable ticket prices, more local people will pay a visit to historic places.
