Daniel was a young boy who thought money was everything. He asked the cost of everything and didn't value things that were cheap.
One morning when Daniel came down to breakfast, he put a little piece of paper, neatly folded, on his mother's plate. His mother opened it, and she could hardly believe it, but this is what her son had written:
Mother owes Daniel:
For running errands: 3 dollars
For taking out the trash: 2 dollars
For sweeping the floor: 2 dollars
Total that Mother owes Daniel: 7 dollars
His mom smiled and stayed quiet. At lunch, she put seven dollars on Daniel's plate. Happy to see the money, Daniel began thinking about what to buy. But, there was another note on his plate. This note was from his mom.
It read:
Daniel owes Mother:
For nursing him through his chicken pox: 0 dollars
For shirts and shoes and toys: 0 dollars
For his meals and beautiful room: 0 dollars
Total that Daniel owes Mother: 0 dollars
Daniel read the note and was silent. Realizing the love behind his mother's actions, he gave back the seven dollars. From then on, Daniel helped his mom out of love, not for money.
This story highlights gratitude. It teaches us to appreciate what others do for us without expecting anything in return. Spend time with family, show kindness, and offer help at home. Love and kindness are more valuable than money.
