Đề: In many countries around the world, life expectancy is increasing. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this situation and give your own opinion. Bài làm: As life expectancy has been increasing inexorably in recent years, it has emerged as a topic of interest all around the world. Nowadays, people tend to live longer thanks to innovative technology and new methods of remedy. This trend would create certain benefits but there will also be some drawbacks. From my perspective, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Longer life expectancy results in several related problems that can be anticipated. First and foremost, the principal issue with this situation is obviously aging-population, which is a long-term dangerous phenomenon leading to many social problems. By way of example, numerous elderly dwellers can cause a dense population, consequently, people have to face the lack of living spaces, rapid house price growth, and pollution. The second drawback is that there will be more people of retirement age who are eligible to receive a pension. The proportion of the working-age population will be smaller and thus, the government will receive less money in taxes. In other words, young generations have to handle a greater tax burden. Besides, the government can not stably maintain the budget for healthcare services and public hospitals. As a result, there are not enough facilities and human resources to take care of people’s health. Despite the fact that there have been many cons, that affect negatively on our society, the potential of increasing life expectancy brings about significant pros in human lives. On the plus side of this trend, the elderly will have more time for themselves to pursue their own recreational activities after their hard-working lifetime when they were young, for instance, they can play sports with friends, and take part in many cultural activities. What is more, the elderly can also help parents take care of their children, so it will cut down a certain amount of money spent on babysitting, and reduce parents’s financial burden in many households. Consequently, their mental health is not only improved, but their family are also becoming more close-knit. In conclusion, whilst there are certain benefits the growing popularity of life expectancy may bring about, I would opine that the disadvantages of this trend are far weightier. It is necessary that the government should take measures to manage and balance the population, for the better growth of the young generation. However, some argue that nowadays people are not paying too much attention to advertisements since they have become so familiar. Therefore, this essay will discuss both ideas before revealing a definitive conclusion. On the one hand, due to the widespread multimedia and information transmission, advertising has become too popular, which bores people and makes them want to neglect it. In fact, according to a survey conducted in the USA in 2019, when coming across an advertisement on a webpage or TV, around 40% of people tend to overlook and the other 10% even try to cancel it by buying a free-advertising account. Consequently, this old way of marketing seems to be no longer as effective as it used to be in catching customers' attention. Additionally, it's more difficult for corporations to gain people's trust through the information advertised about the products compared to the past. On the other hand, advertising has a long history of existence in the markets. Besides, it is the easiest and most prevalent way for the companies' products to approach the customers. Therefore, numerous successful businesses both in the past and in the present still apply this way and come off well. Take the Unilever corporation as an example, from the last century up to now, they have continued using the old strategy as advertising but still gain significant incomes. For this reason, advertisements play an important in marketing despite of periods. Moreover, although parts of people choose to neglect or postpone the advertisements, more than 50% of the respondents during the above survey still watch the advertisements, 20% of which answered that they found some interesting and beneficial that affect their shopping choices from advertisements. In conclusion, although it is true that advertisement is no longer as effective in attracting customers as it was in the past, it is inevitable that it still holds an important status in business by encouraging people to purchase products. Question: The best way to solve the world’s environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Many people believe that raising petrol prices for transportation is the most efficient measure to tackle the environmental issues in the world. While I acknowledge the reasons behind this thinking, I would argue that the authorities could introduce many solutions that offer more suitable results. On the one hand, it is understandable why some people believe the environment will be considerably improved due to a sharp rise in petrol prices. The government decides to raise tax on fuel cost lead to reduce the number of transport. Those who own vehicles, for instance, would take into consideration using public transport to minimize cost. Besides, trading goods would be transported by railway system rather than trucks. These actions would cut down on emission from vehicles and help limit global warming and other consequences like acid rain and the greenhouse effect. On the other hand, I am convinced that increasing prices of petrol is just a stopgap measure, the national and local authorities should adopt more practical policies to comprehensively solve this problem. Firstly, the government should allocate resources to upgrade and expand public transport infrastructure to help moving in the city become more convenient. Thus, people tend to use it instead of private cars to avoid congestion and the emissions could also significantly decrease. Secondly, it is essential to enhance the use of electric vehicles instead of such petrol transportations. For example, the development of new friendly-environmentally electric motorbikes and cars help reduce the amount of petrol consumption and become a sustainable measure with the environment conservation. In conclusion, while there are justifications that rising petrol prices could positively impact on our habitat, I would contend that other solutions would offer long-lasting efficiency. Although there are several controversies, I totally believe that the positive impacts are bigger than the negative ones. On the one hand, there are some disadvantages about private healthcare runned by profit-making companies that makes people think they waste their money having several additional tests. To be more specific, many private healthcare places often give unnecessary health tests for their patients or force the illness to buy healthcare center’s medicine to earn money. Patients do not know about the tests or the medicine can cost them a lot of money, but their health does not improve positively. Consequently, those private healthcare can make profits from the illness without taking care of their patient’s health. On the other hand, in my opinion, private healthcare centers have higher qualities of service and personal experience. For more illustration, because of the high prices, patients can be looked after carefully and treated with many modern facilities, especially for people who have serious illnesses such as cancer. For example, the patients can be cured with the technology that often lacks in normal hospitals, so they can be treated carefully by best devices and skillful doctors. Moreover, instead of waiting in a long queue in public hospitals, they can reduce time for waiting and take care fast by the nurses and doctors. In conclusion, in spite of some negative effects on having unnecessary tests in private healthcare systems, I hold the opinion that those health centers cure and care of their patients with many high qualified facilities, which may reduce the patients’ levels of illness. Some students prefer to take a gap year between high school and university, to work or to travel. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages? There has been much controversy about whether some students in recent years tend to take a year-long break after high school graduation that have more benefits and drawbacks. In my opinion, this trend is more disadvantageous. On the one hand, it is understandable why some people think that taking a gap year is detrimental. One clear disadvantage of it is that it can lead to loss of confidence. The reason is because students can face a peer pressure, they always feel behind in terms of age and learning. Additionally, high school seniors can lose their momentum, finding it hard to continue. For instance, when they take a gap year that is too long, they do not have any motivation to push them come back, everything in front their eyes are spacious and they do not know how to begin with an intense school schedule. This drawback may pose a challenge for students who want to cultivate relevant job skills during the gap year. It is noticeable that most high school seniors graduate, there is a lack of work experience and professional qualifications, and they may end up doing low-paying jobs. On the other hand, I believe there are stronger benefits to delaying tertiary education for a one year. One advantage is that it provides them with more experiences, life skills and soft skills. This is because gap-year affords a new graduated time to travel, immerse themselves in various cultures in the world, which helps them enrich their life experiences and hone practical skills. Such a benefit is especially important for identifying their interests and a suitable career path. The fact is that many schools in Vietnam do not offer workshops aimed at career orientation or attending vocational training courses. They find it challenging to explore their personalities, hobbies, and interests to make a good choice in just a few months. It is quite difficult for students when they need to balance their studies and their orientation. In conclusion, while taking a gap year is not without certain benefits, I would contend that the given disadvantages do not make it a worthwhile path.
