Task 2: In many countries, the quality of life in large cities is becoming worse/ What do you think are the causes of this problem? What measures could be taken to solve it? In many countries, it is obvious that the quality of life in modern cities is becoming worse. From my perspective, there are two prominent reasons for this problem and many solutions could be adopted by governments and citizens. The quality of life in modern cities is becoming worse for two main reasons. Firstly, the air quality of large cities has exceeded excessively safe limits, which can harm citizens’ health. People usually engage in outdoor activities, therefore they can easily be exposed to polluted air which can lead to respiratory disease for citizens. Secondly, inflationary pressure is also a major cause of the worsening of the well-being of people in large cities. For example, the prices of many products in Vietnam have grown fivefold compared to 20 years ago, leading to stress and financial strain among city dwellers. There are various viable measures that should be taken to solve this problem. One of these is that the government and city dwellers need to spearhead environmental initiatives to make the air quality cleaner for living. As a result, fewer people face respiratory illnesses such as asthma, and sniffles, leading to the better well-being of society. For instance, the advent of new electric vehicles has led to cleaner quality of life and environmental protection. Furthermore, governments should introduce new policies to decrease inflation in big cities, resulting in lower inflation rates and reduced pressure on citizens. In conclusion, the dangerous air quality and inflation rates are the potential causes of worsening the quality of life in cities. To address this problem, launching environmental programs and reducing inflation should be implemented by governments and citizens, which can improve the well-being of society. These days, many students are prone to take a gap year after graduating high school to travel and work. In fact, this will help students gain various valuable experiences, but it also has disadvantages. I will outline both the benefits and drawbacks of gap years. On the one hand, gap years bring about many advantages for students after high school. Firstly, Gaining experience is one of the main benefits of taking a gap year after high school. This experience will help students develop soft skills when participating in the labor market, which plays a vital role in seeking their area of interest. Moreover, these students just have jobs that require few degrees and experience such as part-time service and seller employees, which support them in practicing hospitality and resilience. In addition, travel during gap years can expose students to different cultures, and customs, providing opportunities to broaden their horizons and develop cross-cultural understanding. On the other hand, taking a gap year still has several disadvantages. traveling and other activities after high school are extremely costly, and many students can not even be independent financially. This may detract from experience by causing students to incur debt and join in poor-quality jobs. Furthermore, taking gap years will extend study time and miss out on many opportunities in university as expanding quality relationships, interning in good companies, and equipping with specialized knowledge. Additionally, students may face the difficulty of reentering academic life after a gap year, they may have to try to adjust to study academic expectations. In conclusion, more students tend to take a gap year after graduating from high school. This will help them approach various experiences earlier, but I still believe that taking a gap year will impact bad things on students. These days, many students are prone to take a gap year after graduating high school to travel and work. In addition, there was a moderate fall in the Korea disposed of waste while the figures for 5 countries remain increased continuously. In 1980, 0.6 million tonnes of waste dumped in Ireland, which is lowest and moderately increased to 5 million tonnes in the next 20 years. Additionally, the amount of waste dumped in Japan was 32 million tonnes which was merely 1% higher than the figure for Korea in 1990. While, the Japan continuously increased its waste output to 53 million tonnes, the figures for Korea trash dumped dropped considerably, 12% lower than 10 years before that. There were 4 million waste dumped in Poland in 1980, which was double the figure for Portugal. After 20 years, the amount of the Poland and Portugal produced trash gradually grew, at 6.6 and 5 million tonnes respectively. Some people think that the best way to improve road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving a car or motorbike. To what extent do you agree or disagree? One school of thought holds that increasing the minimum legal age for car or motorbike drivers is the best way to reduce accidents. While this action could lead to inconvenience for drivers in some countries, I agree that it provides more safety benefits. Granted, the change in the minimum legal age would not be suitable for every country. The primary key is that a large proportion of car or motorbike users are teenagers who use them to commute to school. Once the legal age is adjusted, people would tend to use alternative modes of transport like bus or tram. Therefore, the governments should ensure that they have a well-developed public transportation system to cater to their citizens. Considering this notion, it seems like the adjustment of driver’s legal age needs a lot of effort from the governments to develop the quality of their public transport. Notwithstanding the aforementioned argument, I advocate that the increase in driver’s legal age does wonders in the safety aspect. First and foremost, drivers who are allowed to drive have already been equipped with academic learning, which means that they have knowledge and ability to tackle problems occurring everyday on the road. For example, a 17-year-old man’s life skills and experiences cannot be compared to those of a 20 year-old-man, so that the older man would come up with a wiser solution if he deals with accidents or daily problems on the road. Another key consideration is that this new policy indirectly decreases the proliferation of automobile users which often contributes to traffic congestion. The higher the legal age, the fewer drivers will be using private transportation. Because of that, traffic congestion would decline, reducing one of the major factors of road accidents. In conclusion, while there are demands for governments worldwide to support the public transport system to adapt to this new policy, I believe that the increase in minimum driver’s legal age is the best way to ensure road safety, considering driver's problem-solving skills and the reduction in traffic congestion. Some people think that the best way to improve road safety is to increase the minimum legal age for driving a car or motorbike. To what extent do you agree or disagree? One school of thought holds... Studies have shown that most criminals have low levels of education. Because of this many believe that the best way to reduce crime is to educate prisoners so they can get a job after being released. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Given that most criminals have low levels of education according to many studies, the best way to reduce crime is to educate prisoners so they can get a secure job after being released. From my perspective, I partially agree with that statement. On the other hand, educating prisoners is good for crime prevention because academic education can give prisoners higher levels of general knowledge, enhancing their creativity and qualifications which can help them find employment after release. For example, prisoners in many countries are taught manual skills, such as needlework, which can help them to find employment and achieve a better standard of living. Furthermore, teaching prisoners soft skills, such as communicating and foreign language can boost their confidence when applying for jobs, leading to job opportunities and low crime rates. On the other hand, educational programs for giving knowledge to criminals can cost a large amount of money from government funding, leading to the government's financial burden. Moreover, a better solution is eradicating people’s prejudice about criminals. Many employers do not sympathize towards prisoners although they have been released for a long time; therefore they tend to not employ the prisoners for their company, making it difficult for ex-offenders to reintegrate into society. For instance, many ex-offenders struggle to find secure jobs or they are often offered low-paying jobs, leading to depression and a high risk of reoffending. In conclusion, while educating prisoners can ensure reduced crime, I partially agree that this is the best way for crime prevention because it can be excessively expensive. Besides, eliminating prejudice is also a good way to reduce crime rates. Therefore, a multifaceted approach is needed to address this issue, ensuring the long-term well-being of society. Studies have shown that most criminals have low levels of education. Some people think paying taxes is a big enough contribution to their society, while others think people have more responsibilities as members of society than only paying taxes. Discuss both views and give your opinion. in contemporary society, paying taxes for the government is always a growing concern. Many contend that taxes made a significant contribution to their city, whereas the view that individuals have broader societal responsibilities is not only an aspect of taxes. From my perspective, I advocate the last statement and i will discuss both perspectives. Admittedly, the duty of the locals is to provide a fixed funding to the government every year so the state can function effectively. To be more specific, taxes support the needs of the public by facilitating better growth and learning prospects for contemporary generations and public safety, thereby creating a durable social structure with responsible members. Hence, they are fulfilling their tax obligation, doing their fair share. Those who advocate more responsibilities as members of society than only paying taxes because they believe that only paying taxes can not elevate life quality and create an equitable society. Ethical behavior plays an integral role in modern society, such as complying with law enforcement, respecting other people, and helping others when someone has some problems. For example, tackling some issues, including environment or storm, requires cooperative effort of all members in the society, this ensures a safe and sustainable future for community. In conclusion, paying taxes is a fundamental duty but it is not adequate. Hence, the collective actions of informed and proactive citizens are vital for societal development. Some people think paying taxes is a big enough contribution to their society, while others think people have more responsibilities as members of society than only paying taxes. The map shown depicts the alteration of a particular village after a span of the last ten years. Overall, the area has not seen significant changes to the premises, but many facilities have been built and park functionality has been improved. Regarding the northwest entrance, it remained the same, while the number of tennis courts doubled to a total of four. In addition, the parking area was renovated to accommodate more cars, from 20 to 50. Beside that, the square soccer field in the center of the garden has been shrunk and converted into a rectangular field. Next, the children’s playground has been separated into normal and soft areas. Analyzing further on the map, a picnic area has been introduced toward the empty space in the southwest along with the opening of boating facilities in place of the pond towards the southeast. Furthermore, the forests in the bottom-right corner of the map were cut down to make space for a new cafe. Additionally, a new bicycle path now encircles the park. Đề: The research indicates that nowadays some consumers are less influenced by advertising than in the past. What are the reasons and is it a positive or negative development? The research demonstrates that some end-users are less affected by advertising currently compared to earlier times. There are two major reasons for this phenomenon, such as increasing exposure to deceptive ads and the rise of alternative information sources. However, I believe this shift has predominantly negative consequences, such as rising unemployment and adverse effects on small businesses with limited budgets. There are two main causes of this trend. First, the prevalence of misleading advertisements has eroded public trust. When consumers encounter false claims, they become skeptical of advertising as a whole. To illustrate, Volkswagen's 2015 scandal, where the company falsely marketed its diesel cars as environmentally friendly by using a software to cheat emissions tests, significantly damaged consumer confidence in green marketing, leading to broader skepticism toward similar claims. Secondly, the emergence of alternative sources like online reviewers offers consumers more trustworthy information. As an illustration, Mink, a popular Vietnamese beauty blogger, is known for her in-depth and honest reviews of cosmetics sold on Shopee platform, helping consumers make informed decisions and avoid low-quality products. Despite these reasons, the declining influence of advertising has two major drawbacks. Firstly, it could lead to job losses in the marketing sector. As consumer responsiveness diminishes, companies may downsize their marketing teams, as seen with Twitter Inc., which laid off numerous employees due to shifts in consumer behavior, such as turning to alternative media platforms for reliable product information. Secondly, this trend could hinder small start-ups with limited marketing budgets. As more consumers rely on personal research and word-of-mouth, small businesses that can only afford to advertise on platforms like Facebook or TikTok may struggle to compete with larger companies that have extensive marketing resources. For example, new shops selling gadgets may find it challenging to attract customers through online marketing, while well-established platforms like Shopee dominate the market by leveraging sponsored reviewers and other marketing strategies. In conclusion, the reduced influence of advertising is primarily driven by distrust in deceptive ads and the availability of alternative information sources. However, this trend brings significant drawbacks, such as job losses and challenges for small businesses, making it a largely negative development. The provided maps illustrate transformations in a museum over a ten-year period, between 1998 and 2008. Overall, it is evident that the museum upgraded with the most noticeable features, including the additions of new facilities and a reorganization of this map. First of all, the permanent exhibition rooms were supposed to be built on both sides of the museum, but it had built on the right side of the maps. In addition, the garden was located in the heart of the maps and remained in the same position over the both years. However, in 2008, this area of garden contained extra fountains and a cafe sitting area. On the left side, the bottom temporary exhibition room was moved to make space for new amenities, including shops, bags and coats. Although many changes happened, a place where people could buy tickets remained at the middle bottom of the map with entrance and exit over a ten-year period. In the plan, the cafe was constructed at the top of the garden and the wc was placed at the right bottom of the map. The cafe was still retained in the same position as the plan, whereas the cafe was made next to the cafe in 2008. Task 2: It has been suggested that all young adults should be required to undertake a period of unpaid work helping people in the community. Would the drawbacks be greater than the benefits to the community and the young adults themselves? Given that all young adults should be demanded to experience a period of unpaid work helping people in the community, the question of whether the disadvantages of this policy outweigh the advantages has been looming large. Although this trend may present certain challenges, I do believe the benefits far outweigh them. On the one hand, there are several drawbacks, one of which is leading to young generations’ financial pressure, especially those from low-income classes. When they engage in unpaid jobs, they do not have money to pay for their living and education, leading to stress and financial problems. Compulsory unpaid work can also decrease the quality of the help. Forcing the young to participate in unpaid work might lead to resentment or lack of motivation, which could reduce the efficiency of helping other people. On the other hand, this trend delivers significant benefits. Firstly, communities can save more money when launching campaigns and projects. Organizing a non-profit initiative or a community project requires a large amount of funding; hence, not paying salaries for workers would reduce significantly the financial burden. Secondly, young adults can gain valuable experience when helping other people. They can learn how to communicate effectively, learn new basic skills, and gain valuable knowledge that may not be taught at school or university. Lastly, this trend can also result in job opportunities. Many companies demand productive and energetic workers; hence, the more meaningful contributions young employees make to the community, the more corporations appreciate them. In conclusion, while requiring young generations to undertake a period of unpaid jobs can result in financial pressure and decreasing efficiency, I maintain its benefits are greater due to the potential of cost savings, personal development, and increased job opportunities, leading to the long-term well-being of society. Task 2: It has been suggested that all young adults should be required to undertake a period of unpaid work helping people in the community. Doctors encourage older people to take regular exercise, but there are few of them taking enough physical exercise. What are the causes and what solutions could be taken to solve the problem It is strongly encouraged by doctors for elderly people to do physical activities regularly , but there are few of them taking enough physical exercise. There are several compelling reasons behind this trend , and some measures could be taken to solve this issue. One major reason for the lack of exercise among older people is age-related health concerns. These include mobility issues , joint pain and cardiovascular diseases , making physical activities more challenging , or even painful for them to do as a part of their daily routines. Therefore , obstacles related to age and the fear of injury and discomfort during exercise lead to older people to hardly take enough physical exercise thereby potentially resulting in their sedentary lifestyles. Another contributor to this trend is lack of resources , especially in rural areas. Although many older people are aware of the importance of doing exercise regularly , there are few programs and fitness centers designed to meet their needs . Limited access to facilities and proper guidance from qualified instructors make older individuals feel discouraged and have difficulty combining physical exercises in their daily routine to enhance their fitness levels. To address this problem , a multifaceted approach could be taken. Firstly , specialists in the healthcare industry should research and develop exercise programs especially tailored to older individuals in different ages , physical limitations and preferences to encourage them to do exercise on a daily basis . These programs include low-impact activities , such as jogging , yoga , swimming and gentle stretching for those with low fitness level in order for them to be less likely to get injured , or more vigorous options for those with higher fitness level. Moreover , the government also plays a crucial role in raising awareness among citizens about benefits of exercise. The government should launch awareness campaigns to educate older people about the importance of doing physical activities regularly and how it impacts on their overall well-being . In conclusion , it is clear that age-related health issues and lack of resources are two main reasons for this trend , and steps needed to address this problem include launching awareness campaigns to educate older people and providing more exercise tailored to different needs to ensure them to follow and engage in safely and effectively Doctors encourage older people to take regular exercise, but there are few of them taking enough physical exercise. The charts below show the performance of a bus company in terms of punctuality, both actual and target (what actually happened compared to what the company was trying to achieve), and the number of complaints from passengers. The bar chart above depicts the performance of a bus company regarding punctuality, both actual and target, while the bar chart below illustrates the number of traveler complaints from 1999 to 2003. Overall, the actual percentage of services arriving on time was consistently lower than the target percentage throughout the period, except in 2003. Another notable point is the substantial increase in the number of complaints over the given period. Regarding the first chart’s data, the bus company reduced its target for punctual performance. The target percentage remained relatively stable at 86% in the first two years, then decreased gradually to under 85% in 2003. In terms of actual performance, its percentage experienced a fluctuation. It was 85% in 1999, dropped to its lowest point of nearly 83% in the next year before returning to 85% in the end. As can be seen from the second chart, more passengers have complained about the bus services over the past five years. In 1999, the number of complaints was about 70% per 1,000 travelers, but this figure almost doubled by 2003, reaching 120% per 1,000 passengers. Some universities now offer their courses on the internet so that people can study online. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages ? There has been much controversy about whether virtual courses bring more benefits or drawbacks. In my opinion, allowing individuals to study from the comfort of their home is more disadvantageous. On the other hand, studying through internet-based courses provides several benefits such as its flexibility and convenience. This is because classes that are held online will save teachers' and students' commute time. Instead of spending an hour a day going to and from school, teachers and learners just need to stay at home to teach and learn on the Internet, so they will have more time to participate in physical activities or learn new skills.
