People say that it is a waste of time for high school students to learn literature such as novels and poems. Do you agree or disagree with this idea?
Many individuals think that there is no point learning literature at high school since it is a time-consuming and tedious subject. From my perspective, I am wholeheartedly of the contradictory viewpoint due to some reasons being clarified in this essay.
It is undeniable that learning literature can bring various positive impacts on the personal development of students. Apparently, literature lessons have the tendency to connect with historical events and upheavals. Hence, studying literature can help young people to be more aware of their history and ethnicity, thereby reinforcing the cultural identity of their nation. For example, in Vietnam, there is an abundance of literary works written in the periods of war. By learning this, students will have a higher sense of gratitude for the sacrifice of their ancestors, thus being motivated to maintain and enhance their homeland.
Another advantage that can be obtained from literature is that it can cultivate students’ creativity as well as foster their communication skills. Taking communication skill as a good illustration, many companies these days require employees who have good eloquence and language proficiency, which can facilitate them to get more lucrative contracts. Therefore, learning literature appears to be beneficial as it makes significant contributions to their future career prospects.
In conclusion, although literature may not arouse students’ interest in some way due to traditional pedagogical styles, the situation can be improved by integrating technology and other activities to make lessons become more attractive. Hence, my firm conviction is that literature should be a compulsory subject thanks to the merits it brings to students.

Another point to consider is that it is effortless to approach. The proliferation of the Internet has overcame geographic barrier; hence, working at home is a sustainable option. In fact, there is no fear of losing interaction with others when several social sites perhaps can fulfill that need. With those platforms, they are able to resolve and discuss work without stepping out of their homes.
Additionally, it allows them to flexibly regulate their schedules. Albeit the same official working and learning hours, they can properly decide which task to do first, then which is the second to enhance productivity without being criticized. This may make learning and working more comfortable.

The two line charts show how many train travellers were there in Sydney and the punctuality of this means of transport from 1995 to 2004.
Overall, there was an increase in the number of people using trains for travelling, while the opposite was true for the proportion of trains arriving on time.
Regarding passenger numbers, in 1995, a quarter of a million people were train commuters, which was the lowest point. Over the next 4 years, the number inclined gradually to about 265 million travellers in 1999, before peaking at 300 million at the turn of the millennium. Thereafter, it fell back to the year 2000’s level, levelling off until 2004.
Concerning the proportion of punctual trains, in the first year, around 92% of trains were operated on time, followed by a steady decline to 85% in the next 2 years. From here, the share reached the highest point at just over the initial level, prior to dropping to the south of the year 1997’s figure and recovering to the pinnacle. Finally, the rate declined sharply and bottomed out at approximately 73% in the last year of the period.

Overall, Europe consistently recorded the highest proportion of literacy in both genders and in total, while the opposite was true for Africa's figures. Additionally, the percentage of literate males was far higher than their female counterparts.
In total, the literacy rate was 82.2% globally, in which Europe dominated at 98.8%, followed closely by both the figures for the Americas and Oceania, comparable at around 93%. Meanwhile, just over three-quarters of Asians were literate, slightly higher than in Africa (62.5%).
Regarding males, literate men around the world accounted for 87.2%, with nearly every man in Europe able to read and write (99.2%), compared to about 94% in the Americas and Oceania. Moreover, the literacy rates of Asian and African males were 85.9% and 71.6%, respectively.
Concerning females, the global literacy rate was 77.3%, lower than that in Europe (98.5%), in comparison with approximately 93% in both the Americas and Oceania. Finally, women who could read and write in Asia represented 72.5%, while just over half of those in Africa were literate.

TOPIC: Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
It is sometimes argued that governments should allocate money to railway systems instead of road networks. To a certain extent, I agree that it may be true that investing in railways can bring many merits. However, I hold a strong view that there are many advantages to building roads.
On the one hand, the opinion that spending money on roads rather than railroads is attractive for several reasons. Firstly, roads have improved connectivity more than railways. This can be explained by investing in building roads to enable better access to remote areas, markets, and amenities for people. For example, the project of linking isolated areas to the rest of the country in Brazil through road networks gained improved access to essential services, markets, and healthcare facilities in larger cities. Secondly, building railways can enhance trade and commerce. To explain, when governments squander money on roads, well-constructed roads facilitate the movement of goods and services, encouraging trade and commerce.
On the other hand, there are a variety of reasons why I believe that governments should allocate money to railways. The first reason is that rail transport is more environmentally friendly than roads. This can be explained that when governments disburse money to railways, the number of people commuting by trains can increase significantly. As a result, this can cut individual carbon footprint and minimize the pollution state. For example, Germany can mitigate air pollution due to making significant investments in railway infrastructure of governments. Another significant reason is railways can reduce the number of vehicles circulating on the streets. Under certain assumptions, this can be construed as by providing a reliable alternative to cars, railways can help alleviate the strain on existing road infrastructure. This can reduce traffic congestion as well as accidents occurring among vehicles on the streets. For instance, the implementation of the high-speed railway system in Japan has significantly reduced traffic jams on major highways and improved the overall transportation experience for the public.
In conclusion, while there are valid arguments against spending money on railways, the benefits of their development outweigh the drawbacks. Therefore, governments should prioritize investment in railways to create a more sustainable and efficient transportation network.

Overall, there was an increase in the proportion of females of parliament to all five countries scrutinized, with the most dramatic rise being seen in the figures for the UK. Despite that, the UK consistently had the lowest data over the period.
Examining the data more closely, the percentage of parliament’s women in Germany started at around 35%, after which it experienced a slight fall to shy of this percentage, before reaching nearly 37% at the end of the span. Meanwhile, the figures for Italy climbed enormously to downward of 40%, outpacing that of Germany in 2012. Similar change, but to a lesser extent, were seen in the figures for France, which grew from around 25% to almost 32% during the evaluated timeframe.
In terms of Belgium and the UK, nearly 17% female representatives of parliament in 2000 in Belgium, with a significant growth to roughly 24% at the end of the duration. Likewise, data for the UK surged dramatically to 20% in 2008 before registering a similarly relative quantity at around 24% with that of Belgium at the end of the period.

Nowadays, it is argued by some that the most influential years of a child’s life are before beginning school, whereas others believe that what a person experiences as a teenager has an impact significantly on their future life. This essay will further discuss the two sides of the issue and illustrate my viewpoint.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that early-life circumstances influence a child’s life. Since the preschool age is the most impressionable, their core character tends to be formed during that period. This is because years under 7 have had fundamental learning experiences, and their first observation of the world happened at that time, which affected their memory and built the basis of their future actions and decisions. For example, children who grow up in a happy family will create strong family bonds with their parents, and have a sense of security and stability, which helps them develop confidence and higher self-esteem. By contrast, children in an unhappy family may experience feelings of anxiety, and stress, which can affect their mental health and social relationships.
On the other hand, advocates of adolescence impacting one’s later life significantly are also able to come up with arguments to justify their opinion. First, a school is a diverse and multiple environment where children interact with peers and teachers, giving them opportunities to present new ideas and beliefs. As a result, children can broaden their horizons and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. Second, as children mature, they have enough knowledge and responsibility to decide their future, especially to determine and orient their future careers. In fact, self-discovery and exploration are significantly important in shaping their personality and disposition towards life.
In conclusion, although the treatment and upbringing of a child from 1 to 6 years old have a great influence on their later life, their teenage period is also influential in forming one’s world views and beliefs. In my point of view, I personally support both of them.
