The table illustrates how students at a university assessed its different criteria in 2000, 2005, and 2010. Overall, all the categories examined experienced increases in the proportion of students surveyed who rated positively throughout the period, apart from the modules range offered, which saw a downward trend. However, the ratings for buildings and teaching facilities remained unchanged over the given timeframe. Regarding criteria that fluctuated, in 2000, three-quarters of students rated teaching quality positively, compared to 84% for print stationery. Over the next 10 years, both saw minor fluctuations in the share of students giving good ratings, ending up north of their initial levels in 2010. Concerning the remainder, 45% of students said that e-resources were helpful initially, after which the share nearly doubled, reaching 88% in the final year. Meanwhile, almost one-third of students said so about the range of modules offered in the first year, which gradually declined to 27% after 10 years. Finally, the figure for buildings and teaching facilities stabilised at 77% over the period. The charts below give information about the people who use public libraries and the main reasons to visit in Britain in 1991 and 2000.
The pie graphs show the primary reasons why people visited public libraries in Britain in 1991 and 2000. Overall, the number of visits remained unchanged over the two years examined, with borrowing or returning books being by far the most common purpose. Additionally, although borrowing or returning videos was not the main reason for utilising public libraries in 1991, it had emerged as a significant one by 2000. In 1991, nearly two-thirds of people in the UK came to public libraries to borrow or return books, which was the most popular reason, just over six times as many as gathering information (10%). However, in 2000, both utilisations experienced a 10% change, to 55% and 20%, respectively. Meanwhile, the respective figures for those using reading materials and studying were at 15% and 10% in the preceding year, but only 5% and 2% did so in the subsequent year, in that order. Moreover, borrowing or returning videos was not listed as the main reason to visit public libraries in 1991, becoming the third most common reason in 2000, with nearly one-fifth of users. Finally, the number of visits remained unchanged at 290 million visits over the two years. The pie graphs show the primary reasons why people visited public libraries in Britain in 1991 and 2000. It is believed by some people that effort should be made to protect and preserve old buildings more than others. Personally, I think there are definitely types of building that should be preserved, and the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. On the one hand, the types of buildings that need to remain include a significant amount of historical and cultural values. For example, old government buildings, temples and churches, even old monuments. These buildings play a crucial role in defining a certain aspect of culture through style of architecture that should be preserved to capture an aspect of history. Take Viet Nam as an example of maintaining the value of history. Independence Palace had been around for nearly 100 years and still remains till now, which is an important role model for Vietnamese people to connect to history and adult people. On the other hand, there are several disadvantages when it comes to protecting old buildings. Because, old buildings have experienced many times, which require a lot of money to restore them to a structurally suitable condition. Additionally, cities nowadays tend to grow significantly and space gradually limited, the perseverance of old buildings will be more difficult and impede the progress of cities. The majority of news being reported is bad news such as wars, famines, accidents. why do you think that is? do you think the news should be balance of both good and bad news
In contemporary society, the amount of news reported has the inclination to be negative news such as wars, poverty, crime and so on. The aim of this essay is to delve into the underlying reasons for this trend. From my own perspective, I totally believe that news should be adjusted in order to be a balance of good and bad news. There are several plausible factors contributing to this trend. It is apparent that people tend to prefer controversial or negative news to the positive ones psychologically. Hence, it is essential for journalists to collect and publish such information in order to generate income . Another rationale behind this phenomenon is that the rates of war, crime or poverty have been astonishingly increasing. Therefore, it is of great importance to ensure all citizens can update the latest news about the current world to suggest feasible solutions to the issues. For instance, the war between Ukraine and Russia was publicized in order to appeal for assistance from other countries to stop the conflict. However, I totally believe that providing a balance between positive and negative news is significant. As a matter of fact, bad news, especially when it comes to untrue news, can contribute to fear, anxiety and hopelessness about the future among readers, thereby undermining social development and operation. Thus, news should also consist of good things such as volunteering, kindness or advancement so as to promote optimism and encourage citizens to devote themselves to their community. In conclusion, while negative reports are vital in the function of journalism and society, I would wholeheartedly argue that the volume of good and bad news should be equal in order to stabilize the society. Task 2: Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to class delivered on campus. Do you think this is a positive or negative development? It is true that online courses provided by some universities nowadays are an alternative to offline classes. While online learning methods are criticized for some disadvantages, I believe such methods are far more benefit. Those who argue that online learning is not effective compare to traditional learning may have some arguments. Firstly, classes that are delivered on virtual platforms usually lack interpersonal interaction. The learners only interact with a screen in front of them, listen to the lecture’s voice through the computer’s speaker, and do a little response. Secondly, if students are not good at concentration, they can be distracted by their surroundings easily, thereby reducing their learning effectiveness. Lastly, the exams organized through online platforms may exacerbate education integrity because students can intentionally conduct cheating behavior to get good results. Nevertheless, I believe that online courses can bring greater benefits for students. Virtual education systems offer students with opportunity to freely choose appropriate time, and place for their learning. Thanks to this flexibility, during the COVID-19 pandemic, students worldwide did not have to abandon their academic careers due to restrictions of government. Besides that, online courses provide students with stored lecture video systems that allow them to review and revise the lectures anytime and anywhere. Moreover, such courses enable students to access to academic resources of many Universities around the world, that beneficial for students’ learning and research. In conclusion, it is understandable why some people may argue the effectiveness of online courses. However, I would take the view that such learning courses offer a range of advantages for students. Some think that governments should support retired people financially while others believe they should take care of themselves. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Some people have proposed that supporting retirees about finance is done by the government, whereas others say that the implementation of financial independence is optimally enhanced. Although both perspectives have a degree of rationale, I agree more with the former perspective due to one primary reason that would be evaluated in this essay. On the one hand, it is possible that there is one major reason why retired people should be responsible for paying their bills. In this day and age, the regulation of pension of people who finish their career is enacted and implemented for them which contributed to the development of the economy and nation in the past. As a result, retired people can allocate their pension monthly to pay for many bills such as water bills or daily bills in shops or markets. For instance, in Japan, the elderly people live on their own by living alone and using their salary as well as getting a job if they have enough health. On the other hand, opponents of the previous view claim that the state ought to bear supporting financially for the senior citizens. In the developing nations, the poverty rate is increasing at unprecedented rate which is happening mainly from the retired people by financial burden that worsens the quality of living and national development. Therefore, if the government wants to improve the quality of society’s life and reduce homeless people, endoring money for retirees is the optimal way. In Vietnam, for example, in the past, there were many soldiers who contributed for the peace and independence of the nation to have a better life in the present without the war. Consequently, the Vietnamese state provided them a sum considered as a way of compensation for their devotion for their country. In conclusion, although there are some controversial views whether or not the government or each individual takes responsibility for supporting financially, I believe that governments need to spend the state budget providing expenses for retired people. Some think that governments should support retired people financially while others believe they should take care of themselves. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. Question: Nowadays, as role models, famous people have and increasing influence on the young. It is a possitive or negative development? In the digital age, it is not an exaggeration to say that the prominence of celebrities significantly influences the youth, leading to shifts in their behaviors, encompassing both negative and positive aspects. This essay will explore both sides of this issue. On the one hand, the impact of celebrities can catalyze positive developments. Firstly, famous people are embodiments of social responsibility models, as they can use their platform to promote positive messages and behaviors, such as supporting community affairs. This not only helps to polish their reputation but also motivates their fans to have a sense of social responsibility. Moreover, through the journeys of grappling with the challenges of renowned individuals, young people seem to be comforted and motivated when facing similar challenges, ultimately leading them to easily overcome obstacles in their lives. However, alongside the benefits of high-profile individuals, the idolization of celebrities can also contribute to detrimental effects on the younger generation, who may have little or no life experience, making them easily influenced by things that can have a deleterious impact on their behavior. Firstly, famous individuals often boast about their luxury lifestyles and promote an idealized way of living to young minds, leading to unrealistic standards commonly seen on social media. This can result in feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem among young people as they compare themselves with these portrayals of wealth and beauty. Secondly, idolizing those who exhibit unhealthy behaviors or controversial opinions, including substance abuse, risky conduct, and unethical actions, may lead young followers to harmful mimicry because they are too inexperienced to distinguish right from wrong. In conclusion, while the positive effects of celebrities on the mental health of the youth are undeniable, it is essential not to overlook the drawbacks in terms of glamorizing unrealistic lifestyles and approving of dangerous actions, which contribute to developments more harmful than beneficial Question: Nowadays, as role models, famous people have and increasing influence on the young. Topic: Some people think that cultural traditions may be destroyed when they are used as money-making traditions aimed at tourists. Others, however, believe that it is the only way to save these traditions. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Opinions are divided on whether or not earning profits from cultural traditions is destroying them. The statement of this essay is that making money from cultural heritage can save these traditions from falling into oblivion. It is comprehensible why people believe cultural traditions can be destroyed if they were used as money-making tools as the increasing vandalism of artifacts and the deterioration of the environment can be caused by mass tourism. With regard to the former, the curiosity of tourists may catalyse them to touch or even interact physically with the antiquities. For instance, if an old, fragile curio was touched by an inquisitive tourist, it may be disintegrated as it was incapable of physical interactions. Moving to the latter, the surrounding nature can be polluted or littered by unconscious visitors, who throw away garbage discriminately. Therefore, the beautiful sceneries around places of interest may be filled with toxic litters, the surrounding nature such as water and trees may also be affected by those noxious liquid or other substances. However, the growth in the number of tourists is the opportunity for residents to introduce their traditions and increase the funding or expenses to preserve cultural heritage. Firstly, traditional activities or artifacts can be introduced to both foreign or local tourists. Hence, people will appreciate the values of ancient cultural traditions more and may realize the necessity of conserving cultural heritage, so those valuable traditions can not be sank into oblivion. Another beneficial effect is that mass tourism contribute to the sustainability of the country's traditions by increasing the funding for repairing old buildings or protecting them from being disrepaired. For example, the museum wall is badly damaged by the rain. In order to protect artifacts from being moisturized or collapsed, funding is needed to repair the wall to preserve antiquities inside that museum. In conclusion, earning money from introducing cultural traditions to tourists has both merits and demerits. However, I believe that cultural heritage may be preserved from being fallen into oblivion due to the increase in funding and appreciation for the traditions. Levels of youth crime are increasing rapidly in most cities around the world. What are the reasons for this? Suggest some solutions to improve the situation. The juvenile criminal issue is becoming prevalent in many countries worldwide. While there are several reasons for the phenomenon, some solutions can be implemented to improve this situation. One cause of this problem is the parents' inadequate practices. In modern life, parents become occupied with their jobs and cannot spend enough time with their children. In a metropolis such as Hanoi, many parents experience financial strain, work-related stress, and challenges in work-life balance; therefore, they can lack interaction with their children. As a result, the children often have aggressive behaviors to attract their parents' attention. To mitigate this problem, parents should learn how to manage their time effectively to maintain work-life balance. For example, in giant corporate such as Google, it has a flexible work model, allowing employees to work remotely, work flexible hours, or schedule their work hours according to their needs to fit their family schedules and time with their children. Another reason is the children's constant exposure to violent content, which can have adverse effects on youth. According to statistics from the NCBI, the average child sees 12,000 violent acts on television annually, including many depictions of murder and rape. If the youth view media violence regularly, they are more likely to exhibit antisocial behavior. An effective method that should be implemented to tackle this issue is that parents should regularly monitor the content their children watch because teenagers cannot select suitable content. For instance, Youtube or Netflix also provide modes or features to help parents manage children's content safely and effectively In conclusion, poor parenting practices and constant exposure to violent content are two culprits behind the problem. I believe that if the solutions mentioned above were implemented effectively, the problem would be alleviated. Levels of youth crime are increasing rapidly in most cities around the world. Computers are often argued to be the most important invention of the last hundred years. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? In the modern world, a number of people assume that computers should be regarded as the most significant creation which proufoundly influenced the human race in various aspects over the past century. However, there is still an opposing opinion from the remainder of public. From my point of view, I strongly agree with the first statement which gives computers the highest appreciation as the greatest invention. On the one hand, those who support the first view have a number of reasons in favour of their viewpoint. Apparently, one major point must be included is that computers allow the process of uploading, storing as well as accessing information to become available all over the world. Therefore, they have provided more opportunities for research and have facilitated the development of human literacy. Taking science as a prominent example, many scientific works have been accomplished over the past decades thanks to the viability of materials which were thoroughly investigated and then archived on the computing system where researchers could take them as a source of preference. In addition, another marvelous merit of the invention computer that I could also mention is that it is a versatile gadget assisting human beings in handling numerous sophisticated tasks. Some technical fields such as Mathematics, Geography or Animation do need computer to join hands in the stage of tracking and analysing data in order to state the most accurate result in an optimal time. To illustrate, human brains are incapable of solving a long range of calculations in a specifically short time and ensuring the accuracy of the equations, so we have to use computers as the more speedy assistance. To conclude, the benefits computers bring to the human race are incredible and therefore cannot be overlooked. Prompt: The diagram below shows how one type of coal is used to produce electricity. The picture illustrates how electricity is generated by a particular type of coal. Overall, there are 8 main stages in this process, starting from the exploitation of coal to the transformation of electricity for consumption. Additionally, in certain steps during the process, the form of this mineral changes from solid to gas, and waste heat is excluded as a by-product. The process begins with raw coal being exploited from the mine before being pulverised by means of a crusher. These fine fragments are then transferred to the gasifier, whereby high heat is used, rendering it into gas. In the next step, the resulting gas enters the cooling facilities, during which waste heat is released. Once the gas has been cooled, it is moved to another place to be cleaned to remove unwanted impurities. The process ends with the cleaned gas being processed in the power plant, where it is converted into electricity for household and industrial use. It is noteworthy that the waste heat is also removed during this final stage. Prompt: The diagram below shows how one type of coal is used to produce electricity.
