The diagram illustrates the process of producing chocolate. Overall, there are 10 main stages, commencing with finding cacao trees having ripe and red pods in South America, Africa or Indonesia and finishing with the liquid chocolate. The first stage in the process is selecting the ripe red pods of a cacao tree grown in South America, Africa or Indonesia. After harvesting pods, white cocoa beans are taken out by cutting pods in half and fermented until reaching the right concentration. Next, these fermented beans are spreaded under the sunlight to dry before being put in large sacks and delivered by train or lorry to the factory. In the stage after being taken to the factory, the dried beans are roasted by a specialized machine under the degree of 350 Celsius. Subsequently, these roasted beans are grinded by a crushing machine while the outer shells are removed. Finally, a machine with two rotating wheels presses the inner part of cocoa and the process cultivates with the production of liquid chocolate. The graph below shows the number of tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. The line chart indicates how many visitors traveled to an island called Caribbean from 2010 to 2017. Overall, the total number of trips experienced an upward trend during the whole timeframe. Additionally, the figure for visitors staying on cruise ships was lower than that for those staying on the island over most of the period but later surpassed the latter by the end of the period. The total quantity of tourists to the Caribbean island began the period at 1 million people, considerably increasing by approximately 1.8 million people from 2010 to 2015. Having remained stable at 2.8 million people until 2016, the number of visitors reached the highest point at 3.5 million people in 2017. Regarding the number of tourists who decided to stay on the cruise ship, it started the period at a relatively low point ( under 0.5 million people). There was a dip of roughly 0.2 million people in 2012, followed by a leap to 2 million tourists in 2017. Concerning visitors staying on the island, about 0.7 million tourists chose the island as their accommodation between 2010 and 2011. There was a minimal increase to 1.4 million visitors one year later, hovering around 1.5 million from 2013 to 2017 except for a slight decline in 2016. ĐỀ BÀI: Nowadays young people spend too much of their free time in shopping malls. Some people fear that this may have negative effects on young people and the society they live in. To what extent do you agree or disagree? ANSWER: These days, young generations usually spend most of their spare time in shopping malls. Some individuals think that this can adversely affect young people and communities in the future. In my view, I completely agree with this opinion. In this essay, I will explain why the statement is true. First of all, young people can spend several hours shopping or gathering in the mall centers, which is considered a waste of time. The more they spend time on entertainment, the less precious time they use for other activities such as studying or exploring. Spending too much time on shopping does not develop people's abilities, it is only a waste of time and costs a lot of money. It is more sensible for young individuals spending their free time for self-study, reading books and volunteering, which are more useful and lend weight to your knowledge. Moreover, when young people go shopping too much, they might be attracted and even obsessed with buying things such as luxurious clothes or jewelry, which are expensive and not essential to spend on. As a result, young individuals might distract their studying and the community can suffer from a decrease in the intellectual level and work productivity as young people are crazy about shopping, entertainment rather than focusing on their work or study. To sum up, spending too much of spare time in shopping malls will have a negative impact on the young generation as well as society. Young people need to adjust reasonably the time on their work, studying and entertainment. They should spend more time on self-study, and develop their abilities. The diagram illustrates the stages of life of the samon, from birth to maturity. Overall, there are 8 stages of the development of the salmon. As can be seen, the salmon gets through 3 different locations in their maturing journey, which starts from river to estuary to ocean and back to upstream. The cycle of salmon's life begin in rivers where they lay and incubate eggs. After these eggs have hatched, they spend time on this stage, being reared in freshwater areas until they grow enough to travel to estuary rearing, where is halfway of their life, living in these water areas for a period. Following the estuary rearing, the salmon migrate to the ocean, where has broader space for their next stage of development, in order to continue the rearing process . Then they gradually become mature and turn into adult fish. Finally, they travel back upstream, migrating to spawning areas to reproduce and the life cycle begins anew. ĐỀ BÀI: Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on campus. Do you think this is a positive or negative development? ANSWER: With the development of technology, online courses are often applied in most universities combined with direct studying at universities and online learning is gradually replacing face-to-face classes. In my opinion, this development brings about both positive and negative effects. On the one hand, online courses are considered to be convenient and essential to students who have busy schedules. It offers students a flexible time to attend lessons, learners can study at any time and anywhere depending on their learning timetables. Additionally, students can postpone the lessons due to some force majeure reasons without any worries about missing the lessons because they can attend the lessons at another time or see the recordings after online classes. Moreover, when studying online, students can have access to unlimited sources of information which are provided by teachers. On the other hand, online courses also have some drawbacks. First of all, it is impossible for students to interact directly with their peers and teachers, which plays an integral part in their understanding the lessons better. Secondly, online learning requires self-discipline and concentration to have effective lessons. For instance, a lot of students are often distracted by many factors such as notifications on their phone, they usually tend to use their phone to surf Facebook, Tiktok or chat with friends and that is a real nuisance to their learning process. To sum up, having online courses can be applied as an alternative choice to some students who have busy schedules. However, this learning form may be harmful in the long term mainly due to the loss of concentration by other interests on the phone. Due to the development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in some countries, many small and local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local businesses will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Currently, colossal allocation of supermarkets in numerous nations leading to the lack of local business’s sustainability. Therefore, there is the opine that this phenomenon can put local communities on the verge of extinction. However, I firmly argued that the death of the counterpart can not be attributed to the closure of local shops due to varied provision and products' quality from supermarkets. There are two compelling reasons why some people consider the death of local communities to be attributed to the closure of local business. Firstly, the lack of social interaction and community engagement . Typically, local activities in stalls are a way to foster a tight knit relationship in local communities. If the local businesses are forced to stop, this will hinder the development of close relationships in the local communities. Additionally, the loss of community identity. When numerous local businesses are on the verge of closing, community identity will no longer develop as it used to be and this issue will lead to the lack of unique features in local communities. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that this opinion can be rejected due to the strong opposite evidence. Firstly, the varied provision from supermarkets for citizens. For instance, with the colossal market sources, people can purchase dozens of foreign items in BigC which is one of the biggest supermarkets in Danang, while these goods cannot be found in local groceries. Moreover, the quality of products. Currently, humans tend to have a healthy lifestyle, so supermarkets are a perfect place where the items have a good verification. In conclusion, I would argue the notion that the closure of local businesses lead to the death of local communities. Despite the lack of social interaction, community engagement and the loss of community identity, supermarkets could bring dozens of benefits which are the varied provision and goods’ quality. Currently, colossal allocation of supermarkets in numerous nations leading to the lack of local business’s sustainability. In recent decades, the amount of money spent on space discovery has significantly increased, causing some public controversy, although some individuals assume that it's not worth allocating resources to this aspect and gravitate toward the idea that humans should continue exploring outer space. On the one hand, the expenditure on space exploration is considered to be a waste as humans have not gained any benefits from it. Firstly, governments have poured billions of dollars into this practice in order to hire gifted scientists, researchers, trained astronauts, or establish space stations. However, this does not seem to be effective as there haven't been any remarkable advances derived from these researches, and humans are still confused about whether extraterrestrial life exists or not. Secondly, some critics argue that space expeditions can cause detrimental impacts on the environment due to the discharge of toxic contaminants during manufacturing and conducting processes. A compelling example is the pollution from rocket launches and effluent from spacecraft fabrication that can pose great threats to the air and water. On the other hand, I am convinced that it is worth continuing space programs regardless of costs. One of the reasons, I would argue, is their unique opportunities for scientific discovery, technological innovation, and inspiring future generations. In other words, only by operating space missions such as the Apollo Program or Voyager Probes could humans invent state-of-the-art spacecraft, discover planets and constellations, or motivate the young to follow their spacemen predecessors’ footsteps. In addition, space exploration can foster international cooperation and collaboration, as every research requires enormous effort from different nations. As a result, this partnership can help address space-exploring challenges through shared knowledge and resources. In conclusion, even though the idea that people are wasting resources on space exploration seems to be true to some extent, I firmly believe that these programs should be continued due to the aforementioned benefits. In recent decades, the amount of money spent on space discovery has significantly increased, causing some public controversy, although some individuals assume that it's not worth allocating resources... The diagram illustrates the components and the operation of a domestic central heating system . Overall, the system comprises variously mechanical aspects and the process commences with the entry of water into the house and culminates in the constant flow of hot water to radiators and the taps for several purposes. In greater detail, the initial phase is that cold water enters into the house and then it runs to a boiler being fueled by gas or oil, where cold water is heated and becomes hot water. The following step is that hot water passes simultaneously in two ways: one which is directed to four radiators located around the house on which there are small tubes to help heat from water disperse with the aim of warming up the room. After hot water being cooler, it travels to the boiler through another pipe aided by a pump. Meanwhile, the remaining water enters a storage tank in order to provide hot water for domestic uses through some taps. On the house’s roof, there is a back-up tank that contains excess water so as to fill the storage tank through a overflow pipe in case of the shortage of water. Prompt: The table below shows the information about medical care in three European countries between 1980 and 2000. The table compares the healthcare systems across three European countries, namely Austria, France, and Sweden, in 1980, 1990, and 2000. Overall, Sweden's statistics were consistently the highest in all three categories over the period. Additionally, only the number of hospital beds per 1,000 people in all three countries increased steadily throughout the examined timeframe. Regarding the number of medical practitioners, in 1980, there were 3.6 individuals per 1,000 people in Sweden, while 2.4 and 0.8 physicians were recorded in France and Austria, respectively. Over the following 20 years, Sweden's numbers decreased to 3 people in 1990, before recovering north of the initial level in 2000. However, the figure for France experienced a steady decline to 1.3 in the final year, while that of Austria saw an increment of 0.1 per decade, reaching 1 person. Concerning the number of hospital beds, in the first year, Sweden accommodated 6.4 patients per 1,000 residents, far higher than France's and Austria's respective figures of 0.2 and 1.4. The pictures illustrate how a present college site will change in the future. Overall, the college is projected to undergo several significant changes, the most prominent of which include the addition of classrooms, leading to the expansion of the site at the expense of the footpath and garden. Regarding the exterior, at present, there is a footpath traversing across the site, separating the main building from a garden, a parking lot, and a bus stop. In 2020, the garden and the footpath are anticipated to be removed, making space for the car park and main building to be expanded, while the bus stop and the road are expected to remain unchanged. Concerning the interior, currently, the main building can be accessed via an entrance on the same side of the garden, with a toilet being situated at the far end of the entrance. Moreover, a lunch area and two classrooms can be seen on the right from the entrance, while on the left is a third classroom, a reception area, and a library. According to the proposal, the entrance and toilet are expected to swap positions, while the lunch area will be downsized, making room for the addition of a new shop. The overuse of high-tech devices, particularly computers resulting from the endlessly continuous development of technology makes varied people nowadays have in mind that they would not be capable of surviving or laboring, but not having them. Contrastingly, other people believe that computers commonly exist as a barrier to humankind in today's world. This essay will analyze the issue from both sides before my personal perspective is provided. On the one hand, there are various ways in which computers are more a hindrance than a help. Initially, in terms of health, not only can negatively affect our vision, but it may also have a risky influence on our human skeleton, particularly the backbone. It is to say if humans use computers for a long time, too much exposure to blue light from computer screens can cause digital eye strain. Furthermore, it is evident that regular usage of computers without any limitations can bring about long-lasting laziness in human behavior, making people less active and more sleepy. On the other hand, individuals feel computers as an indispensable tools, regardless its danger level. Despite the drastic negatives provided, one cannot turn a blind eye to the incontestable benefits that it is the easiest way to collect data. We all acknowledge there are limitations to memorizing capability in our brain, and we cannot remember various information. Thus, we need computers not only to do this work but also to do other types. For example, with computer assistance, we can organize several specific apps to help us manage and fulfill our work from a distance, not having any common mistakes or embarrassing imperfections. After considering the issue, I am more sympathetic to the second view. Although there are several opinions that computers negatively affect our lives, I personally acquiesce that its benefits outweigh its drawbacks. Nevertheless, it is an advice that you should not stay on the computer for hours per day in order not to suffer from health and mentality problems. WRITING TASK 2 You should spend about 40 minutes on this task. Write about the following topic: There is a lot of pressure on young people today to succeed academically. As a result, some people believe that non-academic subjects, such as physical education and cookery, should be removed from the school syllabus so that children can concentrate on academic work. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience. Write at least 250 words. Bài viết: Some people believe that the young should be forced to pursue academic subjects and ignore non-academic ones such as physical education and cookery in order to become successful. In my opinion, I do not agree with the idea of removing non-academic subjects from the curriculum as all subjects are important and can contribute to the complete development of children. On the one hand, the opponents encourage young people to just concentrate on educational disciplines since they believe these can help their kids succeed. Children are being put more and more pressure to make an effort to study academic fields such as math or physics. Obviously, these subjects can stimulate kids' brains and help them solve problems logically. As a result, some people consider being good at academic disciplines with intelligence and higher opportunities to achieve greater results. On the other hand, concentrating on succeeding academically and neglecting other fields may lead children to lack life skills. First, when they are put under the expectation of others about high academic results from an early age, they can only focus on that work and forget other necessary skills. For instance, in many families, the parents do not let their kids do any household chores as they want the children to focus on their studies, some even choose to send them to extra classes for better marks. Properly, when these children grow up, they can be extremely good at some academic field but do not know how to do basic housework. Moreover, when non-academic subjects like physical education and cookery are removed, children will not have time for outdoor and leisure activities. They will not have an environment to interact with other people and improve their communication skills. Although many people are not aware of the importance of non-academic subjects to the young population, it is clear that when the body is healthy with physical activity, the brain can work better with studious disciplines. In conclusion, I strongly believe that both academic and non-academic subjects have positive impacts on children as each kind has its own way of developing children's abilities. Therefore, I do not agree with detaching non-academic subjects from the school syllabus. With the combination of all necessary fields, young individuals can be successful. The line chart below illustrates the variation in the number of people accessing to two fresh music sites (Music Choice and Pop Parade) in 15 days. As can be seen from the graph, both the websites' figures experience a fluctuation and end up with higher visits than it shows from the beginning of the period. However, the Music Choice undergoes more remarkable changes overall. Starting off at nearly 120 times in the first three days, Pop Parade's visits went down quickly and dropped to a low of 20 times on the seventh day. After a period of stability around this figure, it suddenly increased to over 140 times, followed by a marked decrease of about half on the thirteenth day once again. Finally, it peaked at over 160 times. Regarding Music Choice, the website has a less humble start than Pop Parade at only 40 visits and spikes to 60 viewers three days later. Nevertheless, it was harshly down and fluctuated at around 20 to 40 visits in the eight upcoming days. Then, the figure surged and touched the highest point over 120 times after starting to decline one more time to reach approximately 80 times on the last day. Task2: In many countries, children are becoming overweight and unhealthy. Some people think that the government has the responsibility to solve this problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree? It is argued that the trend of being overweight and unhealthy in the young ages, especially kids, are more popular at an unprecedented rate than in the past. In my opinion, I believe that this problem should be addressed by both governments and parents for several reasons. On the one hand, the government makes a significant contribution to deal with the state of child obesity. Firstly, parent’s children pay an amount of money for the national budgets like food or services related to it. As a result, the government should take responsibility for ensuring that children need to sustain a healthy diet with essential nutrition. Secondly, being overweight and unhealthy can happen through having meals at school. With regard to their school’s diet, the government can combine with school as well as nutritionists to get a daily suitable menu for children to provide complete nutrition without causing them to become overweight. On the other hand, the parental factor plays an important role in coping with this issue. Nowadays, the rate of obesity at a young age results from the unconcern of parents about the weight of children, which is researched by experts published in the VNExpress. Because parents often pamper their children by allowing them excessive consumption of sweet candies or soft drinking leading to being overweight and unhealthy. As a result, families should control the amount of food intake everyday of children to reduce the percentage of weight gain. In conclusion, the government and parents are responsible for solving this phenomenon. If the government gets health topics in the children’s curriculums, this trend will reduce significantly. Prompt: The chart below gives information about the journeys to school by children aged 11 to 16 in the UK in a year. The bar graph shows how children in the 11-to-16 age range in the UK commuted to school by four means of transport during a year. Overall, the majority of schoolchildren choose to walk or cycle to school for journeys within 2 miles, while being driven by car or bus is more common for those travelling more than 2 miles. Regarding commutes less than 1 mile, travelling to school on foot makes up 90% of schoolchildren, which is the most common method, while half of those do so by bicycle. However, far fewer children go to school by car or by bus, with less than 10%. In the 1-to-2-mile range, the figure for cycling is the highest, at around three-quarters, surpassing that of walking, at 60%.
