Đề: Some people think the money spent on developing the technology for space exploration is not justified. There are more beneficial ways to spend this money. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Bài làm: It is argued that the expenditure allocated for state-of-the-art technological devices for space exploration is not reasonable. Many people believe that there are numerous productive uses to spend this money. I utterly agree with this statement given that addressing environmental contamination and investing in education in many countries are higher priorities. The major reason that I agree is that this money can be utilized to fund programs aimed to restore the environment. It is undeniable that humans are polluting and destroying the environment at a rapid rate, and there seems to be no concrete action to prevent a global environmental catastrophe from occurring in the near future. In 2022, for example, the Vietnamese government invested a huge amount of money to organize a program with the aim of cultivating 50 million trees in Gia Lai province. Therefore, future generations could have a health and safety planet to live. A further justification that I approve is that impoverished children’s lives can significantly be improved. In fact, there are millions of children around the world currently are unable to attend school due to the lack of financial resources and educational institutions. This is illustrated by the fact that the Vietnamese government subscribed a large amount of money to Angola with a view to constructing free schools, which is why education will become more accessible in many developing nations. Therefore, it is predicted that more and more free-paying schools will be built, youngsters have access to educational opportunities. To conclude, I totally agree that spending money on space exploration is not unjustified. This is because this can help poor children access education and mitigate environmental pollution on a global scale. As a result, this financial resource should instead be allocated towards improving human welfare and installing cutting-edge medical systems in some developing nations, such as Angola. Đề: The maps below give information about a plan to redevelop an industrial site Bài làm: The two maps depict the changes which are planned to take place in industrial site. To summarize, this industrial park will undergo several significant changes, the most important of which will be the destruction of the factory as well as the construction of various accommodation structures. Looking first at the western part of this location, adjacent to Toe Land, there are a parking lot and a warehouse, but they are expected to be replaced by two new houses, one with three bedroom and another with four. Meanwhile, the center will experience multiple remarkable variations, one of which is the removal of the entrance and reception building next to Chimney Road to make way for three 2-bedroom houses with their own communal gardens to their south, taking up more space than now. On the eastern side of this location, near Pie Walk, the plant will be devastated to give way to a new parking lot and an apartment complex that are expanded to the north. Another change in the center is the replacement of the office area and the canteen beside Swallow Street by parking garages to cater to new residents. All the aforementioned new buildings will be connected via private roads, occupying the former yard. Đề: Advertising is becoming more and more common in everyday life. Is this a positive or negative development? Bài làm: Advertising has become a ubiquitous presence in modern society, infiltrating our daily lives through television, social media, and public spaces. I believe that this phenomenon will bring about drawbacks, such as the loss of personal information and interruptions in concentration on a daily basis. The first primary disadvantage is its potential to invade personal privacy. In fact, advertisers constantly collect personal data from consumers without their knowledge or consent, then utilize this information to modify their advertisements. For example, the social media platforms, such as Facebook or Instagram, are assumed to track user activity and browsing history to distribute adverts, resulting in the loss of private information for internet users. Consequently, our online behavior is being closely monitored, analyzed and exploited by companies. A further drawback is that the omnipresence of commercials disrupts our daily habits and demands our attention, making us difficult to concentrate on working or studying. In reality, while browsing a website or using an app, pod-up ads can emerge unexpectedly, hindering navigation and frustrating users. For instance, while we are watching video on Youtube, watchers are often interrupted by adverts that cannot be skipped, causing a break in concentration and immersion. Therefore, the experience when people are utilizing the Internet and the process of working or studying will be negatively affected. In conclusion, I am convinced that the increasing prevalence of advertising in everyday life will result in negatives, including the potential violation of personal privacy and the disturbance of daily activities of individuals on the Internet. It seems to me that the companies overseeing social media platforms had better adjust the number of advertisements on the Internet. Đề: Advertising is becoming more and more common in everyday life. Đề: In many countries around the world, life expectancy is increasing. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this situation and give your own opinion. Bài làm: As life expectancy has been increasing inexorably in recent years, it has emerged as a topic of interest all around the world. Nowadays, people tend to live longer thanks to innovative technology and new methods of remedy. This trend would create certain benefits but there will also be some drawbacks. From my perspective, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Longer life expectancy results in several related problems that can be anticipated. First and foremost, the principal issue with this situation is obviously aging-population, which is a long-term dangerous phenomenon leading to many social problems. By way of example, numerous elderly dwellers can cause a dense population, consequently, people have to face the lack of living spaces, rapid house price growth, and pollution. The second drawback is that there will be more people of retirement age who are eligible to receive a pension. The proportion of the working-age population will be smaller and thus, the government will receive less money in taxes. In other words, young generations have to handle a greater tax burden. Besides, the government can not stably maintain the budget for healthcare services and public hospitals. As a result, there are not enough facilities and human resources to take care of people’s health. Despite the fact that there have been many cons, that affect negatively on our society, the potential of increasing life expectancy brings about significant pros in human lives. On the plus side of this trend, the elderly will have more time for themselves to pursue their own recreational activities after their hard-working lifetime when they were young, for instance, they can play sports with friends, and take part in many cultural activities. What is more, the elderly can also help parents take care of their children, so it will cut down a certain amount of money spent on babysitting, and reduce parents’s financial burden in many households. Consequently, their mental health is not only improved, but their family are also becoming more close-knit. In conclusion, whilst there are certain benefits the growing popularity of life expectancy may bring about, I would opine that the disadvantages of this trend are far weightier. It is necessary that the government should take measures to manage and balance the population, for the better growth of the young generation. Đề: Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion. Bài làm: It is a common belief that advertising is an effective way to persuade customers to purchase stuff. However, some argue that nowadays people are not paying too much attention to advertisements since they have become so familiar. Therefore, this essay will discuss both ideas before revealing a definitive conclusion. On the one hand, due to the widespread multimedia and information transmission, advertising has become too popular, which bores people and makes them want to neglect it. In fact, according to a survey conducted in the USA in 2019, when coming across an advertisement on a webpage or TV, around 40% of people tend to overlook and the other 10% even try to cancel it by buying a free-advertising account. Consequently, this old way of marketing seems to be no longer as effective as it used to be in catching customers' attention. Additionally, it's more difficult for corporations to gain people's trust through the information advertised about the products compared to the past. On the other hand, advertising has a long history of existence in the markets. Besides, it is the easiest and most prevalent way for the companies' products to approach the customers. Therefore, numerous successful businesses both in the past and in the present still apply this way and come off well. Take the Unilever corporation as an example, from the last century up to now, they have continued using the old strategy as advertising but still gain significant incomes. For this reason, advertisements play an important in marketing despite of periods. Moreover, although parts of people choose to neglect or postpone the advertisements, more than 50% of the respondents during the above survey still watch the advertisements, 20% of which answered that they found some interesting and beneficial that affect their shopping choices from advertisements. In conclusion, although it is true that advertisement is no longer as effective in attracting customers as it was in the past, it is inevitable that it still holds an important status in business by encouraging people to purchase products. For that reason, advertising still be one of the most common ways used by companies to attract customers. Đề: Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things. The given chart depicts the amount of time spent by the residents who lived in the UK on three primary kinds of phone call from 1995 to 2002. Overall, most people tend to make calls by local-fixed line throughout the period shown. Meanwhile, the lowest figures on the chart are for mobile calls, however, this category also witnessed the most dramatic increase over the period of 7 years between 1995 and 2002. In 1995, local calls with fixed lines were used for a total of over 70 billion minutes, and around half of that amount was for national and international calls. On the contrary, the minority of UK’s citizens spent time on mobile calls. All three types of phone calls experienced a gradual increase during the next 4 years. By 1999, the number of minutes spent on local calls using landlines reached its peak of 90,000. Subsequently, the figures for this type fell steadily, but the rise in the other two kinds of phone calls continued. The diagrams illustrate how the area of the town of Poulton changed after some alterations and urban developments over a period of 35 years, from 1900 to 1935. Overall, the area experienced significant renovations in terms of buildings and amenities. In 1900, the layout had a combination of residential, commercial, and industrial features. However, by 1935 the industrial features had largely disappeared, while there was a dramatic development of residential features. Whilst the railway line ran through the neighborhood in 1900, this had been removed by 1935. Furthermore, to the North of the map, the Bayley Mansions residence was erected on the original site of the factory, the Wasteland, and the first row of houses on Bayley Street. Besides, the two rows of terraced houses on Trent Street were replaced by blocks of flats to meet the growing demand for dwellings. Another major conversion to this area was the renovation of more commercial and recreational features. On the commercial side, the Laundry and Cafe had been relocated to the top right-hand corner, on the original site of the Wasteland in 1935. To the right of the map, some new shops were built on the aptly named New Lane, replacing the small shop of 1900. Furthermore, by 1935, recreational features appeared when the Wasteland, railway line, Railway workers' cottages at the bottom of the map, and the second row of houses on Bayley Street were torn down to make room for a spacious park and children’s play area. Some of the methods used in advertising are unethical and unacceptable in today’s society To what extent do you agree with this view? The modern world we live in is now covered by a multitude of advertisements, from social media platforms to billboards lining the streets. This essay agrees that a number of advertisements nowadays have been created in unacceptable and immoral manner. To begin with, **it is deeply concerning that** certain intrusive commercials incorporate offensive content or even racist elements. This might have a profound impact on vulnerable individuals. Dove, for example, a well-known shampoo brand, released an advertisement that contained toxic imagery. It depicted a black woman removing her T-shirt to reveal a white woman after using Dove’s body lotion. Not only is this advertisement racist, but it is also deeply insulting to viewers. Another aspect of advertising I would like to consider is its unethical nature. The reason for this is that they tend to manipulate people into buying unnecessary products with unreasonable prices. What exacerbates this issue is promotion campaigns are likely targeted toward children and youth such as, expensive toys, **sugary beverages** or even luxury fashion **jewelry**. Young people who possess limited financial literacy, might force their parents to buy these things which place an immense burden on their parents to meet their children’s demands. In conclusion, it is undeniable that many advertisements that exist in contemporary society are irritating and unethical, which consistently encourage people to buy products or services that might be too expensive or not in need. Therefore, it is necessary for the administration to take actions to control and manage the content of adverts before they are made public. Some people think that nuclear energy is better than other sources of power for meeting ever-increasing global need. To what extent do you agree or disagree? ——————————————— It is undeniable that the population is significantly increasing, so the need for several sources of energy is growing. Many people argue that other sources of energy are not better than nuclear power. I am of that opinion that there is still a safer source of power. On the one hand, nuclear power can create a permanent source of power. To be more specific, the ways to produce nuclear energy do not contain coals, gases so there are not any toxic fumes released to the environment. Moreover, when people create nuclear energy, they do not make up many areas and it would prevent possible deforestation and pave the way for economical development. On the other hand, nuclear power can cause serious damage to the environment. For more illustration, if the scientists do not carefully handle the nuclear chemicals that they use in the process, both people and the environment can be harmed by those chemicals. For example, the Chernobyl nuclear explosion is the most serious happening in the 20th century, and the consequence is still continuing to these days such as the land cannot cultivate, the water from nearby rivers cannot drink or the residents cannot live around that areas. Besides, There are more safer sources of energy, for instance, renewable energy. Instead of Uranium, this source of power use wind, water or solar. This source of energy is endless and safe, people can use this energy without worrying about the toxic chemicals. In conclusion, while there are many benefits of using nuclear power, I still believe that there are more beneficial sources of power such as clean energy from nature because it is safe for users. Question: Some people believe that sport has an important role in society. Others, however, think that it is nothing more than a leisure activity for some people. Discuss both views and give your opinion. Many people believe that sport plays an especially essential role in social development, whereas others believe that it does not offer any advantages than entertainment. This essay will first closely clarify both points of view before concluding that I argue with the former. On the one hand, it is understandable why some people think sport activities are just a form of pastime. The key rationale in favor of this notion is that sportsmen could be outstanding and gifted to become a sport professional. Nowaday, many people spend most of their time playing sports after a long day working to reduce stress and enhance their physical health. Therefore, people take into consideration these sports as a relaxing activity. People who play football every week, for example, could release their negative energy and build their stronger muscle system. Considering these, the idea of considering sport as a leisure is justifiable. On the other hand, I am convinced that sport not only brings entertainment but also plays an especially important role for both individuals and society. This is because it helps players improve their Olympic ideals. Those who immerse in their favorite sports always try their best to gain certain achievements or simply become the most professional. Furthermore, playing sports in teams offers people to get on with new people who have the same interest, lead to expanding their social relationships. In conclusion, while there are justifications that sport is a reasonable leisure activity, I would contend that sport could bring more value than such entertainment. Question: Some people believe that sport has an important role in society. Others, however, think that it is nothing more than a leisure activity for some people. Question: The best way to solve the world’s environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Many people believe that raising petrol prices for transportation is the most efficient measure to tackle the environmental issues in the world. While I acknowledge the reasons behind this thinking, I would argue that the authorities could introduce many solutions that offer more suitable results. On the one hand, it is understandable why some people believe the environment will be considerably improved due to a sharp rise in petrol prices. The government decides to raise tax on fuel cost lead to reduce the number of transport. Those who own vehicles, for instance, would take into consideration using public transport to minimize cost. Besides, trading goods would be transported by railway system rather than trucks. These actions would cut down on emission from vehicles and help limit global warming and other consequences like acid rain and the greenhouse effect. On the other hand, I am convinced that increasing prices of petrol is just a stopgap measure, the national and local authorities should adopt more practical policies to comprehensively solve this problem. Firstly, the government should allocate resources to upgrade and expand public transport infrastructure to help moving in the city become more convenient. Thus, people tend to use it instead of private cars to avoid congestion and the emissions could also significantly decrease. Secondly, it is essential to enhance the use of electric vehicles instead of such petrol transportations. For example, the development of new friendly-environmentally electric motorbikes and cars help reduce the amount of petrol consumption and become a sustainable measure with the environment conservation. In conclusion, while there are justifications that rising petrol prices could positively impact on our habitat, I would contend that other solutions would offer long-lasting efficiency. The bar chart below shows shares of expenditures for five major categories in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan in the year 2009. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Essay The bar graph displays the proportions of expenditures on five significant purposes in four distinct countries in 2009. Overall, in 2009, food, accommodation and transport accounted for the largest amount of spending, whereas healthcare constituted the smallest proportion. In the United States, it can be seen in the graph that 26% of the American budget, the highest figure among the four nations, was spent on accommodation, followed by transportation at 19% and food at 14%. In contrast, healthcare expenditures constituted 8%, doubling that of fashion. In Canada, citizens allocated 21% of their financial resources to housing, while transportation came in a close second at 20%. Additionally, food accounted for 15%, while medical care and clothing occupied more or less a third of that level. Moving to shares of expenditures in the United Kingdom, 24% of the UK’s spending went to housing, 21% to food, and 15% to transportation.
